How to stop reknown from draining away

Users who are viewing this thread

I would like to know how to stop my reknown from lowering over time. I think it is one of the features that annoys me most in warband. As far as I can tell, it wasn't like that in native M&B, I remember having over 3k reknown there and Warband doesn't let me pass the 2000 line. I have the module system, but I am not a experienced modder so I could have missed where to change it. Or is the whole thing hardcoded?
Thank you in advance

Similar thread was made but it was about army cap draining, anyways, they said just fight bandits... lots and lots of bandits. And maybe only use your companion(s) and yourself for extra reknown.

My my... You don't get my point do you? I know how to gain reknown. I just don't like the game mechanic that reduces reknown over time when I idle around chasing butterflies. So I want to remove it. With a tweak.
I know I still can increase reknown by attacking every bandit party on the map on sight.

I noticed it going down when I travelled around Caladria building enterprises everywhere. I threw a party some time before that but I think it isn't connected to the party at all, it just happens some time after 800 or 900 reknown and it gets worse the more you have.
Sure it is easy to adjust the amout a tournament gives you, but that would raise reknown too fast in the beginning and it would still drain away when you don't do tournaments. There has to be a more elegant solution

I am assuming at this point you have a strong band of companions yes? Garrison the army and take the companions out and hunt down large bandit groups. My companions and I can easily take on 30 average bandits (not talking about sea raiders)

Do you get renown for taking down 30 bandits?

I see my renown skyrocket when I'm at war.  Sometimes I'll get 30 renown for 1 battle wave (maybe 50 for the whole battle if it's my army against 500).

I don't remember seeing more than 7-10 renown if I'm fighting a big group of bandits.  (even 80 faction troop deserters)?

Besides...  If you lose a battle it really sucks.  I hadn't lost one in 100's of days but I just lost one.  Not only did I lose about 70K dinars, I also lost 1 pt strength from a torn tendon. :???:

Wow, the lack of comprehension skills in this thread is quite scary. To answer the OP, no. No one's found a tweak yet to stop renown decreasing. At least not that I've ever seen.

@ Iffy, Renown is largely based on the odds. If you take an army of 200 huscarls and kill 30 bandits, no one thinks much of it. If you and a few friends do so then suddenly there is a story to tell.

Looting villiages with 8 companions gives fistfuls of reknown, at least 25 a battle. You're screwed if an army comes along though.

It's not fair. 10 heavily armored horsemen have 100 peasants outnumbered really.

Companions when hitting lvl 25 or so are the best fighters you can hire in M&B even those focussing on int/cha. Ranged with 3 quivers of ammo and heavy armor (i limit myself to those that are heraldic) they are the best (cross)bowmen you can get. As I have all 16 they get exceedingly expensive. Ah well this is all ot anyway.

At least someone read what I wrote.  If you find out more, please let me know.

The OP doesn't care how to gain reknown, he wants to know what to tweak in order to disable the decrease.

It doesn't look like you'll find much here man, maybe go to modding forum and put in a request?

Go to your SIMPLE_TRIGGERS.TXT file and find the following:

168.000000  4 520 3 1224979098644774912 360287970189639680 7 2123 3 1224979098644774913 1224979098644774912 200 2106 2 1224979098644774912 1224979098644774913 500 3 360287970189639680 7 1224979098644774912

Your current renown is divided by the 200 (ie, 0.5%), then the result is subtracted from your current renown.  This happens once per week.  To eliminate it, simply change the 200 to a very high number, such as 99999.

If you wanted to do it a different way, the 168.000000 is the number of hours between renown decreases (168 hours = once per week by default).  Again, you could simply change this to a very high number, such as 9999.000000, and the renown decrease would only happen about once per year.

How do you manage that? I'm trying to us as many companions as possible, but I've only been able to use 12.
I've had Firentis, Jeremus, Ymira, and Alayen with all the other companions. F & Y eventually left (because we had been doing too much killing?).

Ah well, I was always playing with 16 companions, in M&B I used themagelord's tweaks and in warband the tweakMB tool from kefka95 made it laughably easy, just disable interaction and add the option to forbid them to leave.

Oh wow! That was exactly what I was looking for! You already helped so much with your tweaking tool. I was kind of playing around with the back color of heraldic armors in the module system but you my dear sir seem to have completely mastered it. Again, thank you very much.
Looking back to the original, this trigger existed from the beginning of mount and blade. I never noticed it. It seems like I was a more belligerent warmonger back then and the influence isn't as big as I expected. Loosing 10 to 20 reknown per week isn't that much. Seems like its fighting 100+ Seeraider parties then.
You should add that to your tool... but perhaps it isn't an issue that big for other gamers.

I'm trying to play 100% pure native, but this is a change I think I'll make.  It's bull**** that I have 130 guys and the other kings have about 400  (Sanjar Kahn has 468!!!)

It occurred to me after my last post that maybe you weren't referring to the weekly renown loss, but rather the renown "subtraction" that happens every time you gain renown (ie, the idea that as your renown gets higher and higher, it also becomes more and more difficult to gain new renown).

If you want to change that part of it, go to your SCRIPTS.TXT file and find the following:

change_troop_renown -1
31 21 1 1224979098644774912 22 1 1224979098644774913 520 3 1224979098644774914 1224979098644774912 7 4 0 32 2 1224979098644774913 0 2133 2 72057594037927940 1224979098644774913 2123 3 1224979098644774915 1224979098644774914 200 2106 2 1224979098644774913 1224979098644774915 2111 2 1224979098644774913 0

By default, your existing renown is divided by the 200, then the result is subtracted from the original renown gain.  For example, if you won a battle with a renown value of 15, and your character already had 2000 renown, you would only actually get +5 renown at the end of the battle (ie, 2000/200 = 10;  15-10=5).

If you wanted to modify the amount of renown that gets subtracted from each renown gain, simply change the 200 to a different value.  For example, if you change it to 400, you would still have some renown taken away, but only half as much as usual.  Likewise, if you wanted to completely eliminate the renown subtraction, you would change the 200 to a very high value, such as 999999.
