i've found a way to put troops in villages, they wont fight on their own, but if you arrive, you'll get whatever troop you dump in your village and not farmers, this in effect gives you the choice to station a garrison
I agree wit you but to get around this I personally rationalize this like to think as you putting these men on a sort of "Reserve Duty."
They don't guard the village from attack, nor do they dissuade a raiding party from burning the village to the ground but they are there. They are just kind of hanging out and living their own lives in your villages. They're not active military so they shouldn't be paid as such. They are just plain old villages who happen to be highly trained if called upon to serve their lord. If you don't call them into active duty though they'll remain in your village happily living a peaceful life...
Aldwen i think if you use the unnificial troop editor and edit the defense party for villages you can change their behavier to millitary so they can raid other fiefs...i tried it but it didnt work cause my scripting files wont even work wen try to change ceartain troops to equip other weapons than they usually have. for example:I click on champion fighter and i change his stats and his equipment. I save, update, and start the game, but it doesnt work
To rationalize it, think of the Roman colonia, a settlement populated by farmers who just happened to be older men who'd done years of service in the legions. In Republican times, these guys were expected to provide their own arms when they enlisted, so they'd have kept them once they got out. No salary as troops, not wandering the countryside as a police force, but available to be drafted back in emergencies.
