How to solo as a mounted archer

I've seen quite a few topics where people talk about being able to solo as a mounted archer. How is that possible? Well, that's a bit generalizing. How is it possible when enemies start having mounts of their own and shields? Even with a strong bow and 3 bundles of arrows equipped, I run out before long, wasting so many shots to break through shields.

  1. Enemy Comes near, with raised shield
  2. Enemy lowers shield to swing sword/couch lance
  3. Enemy recieves arrow in the face
  4. Repeat

It's not very bright to go around without a mélee weapon. The best setup for a horse archer is this: War bow, 2x large bag of bodkin arrows, balanced sword of war/balanced great axe. First you own all non-shielded units with the bow, then shoot all the horses from under the shielded cavalry, then kill everyone with ride-by -attacks with your mélee backup. If you manage to catch someone unawares or bust someone's shield with your 2-hander, then shoot them instead, but be very careful not to waste arrows on enemies' shields.

I usually go on foot with light armour, Chain at most, a Warbow, 3 stacks of bodkins and a horse if the enemy has em. From there, I just shoot the horses out from under the riders and then go on foot once the cavalry are all demoted to footmen, shoot the ones that don't have shields, from there, just let the shield wielders get close and lower their shields to attack, then you just pop em in the head, easiest kill in the game, this tactic works on everyone, even DKs. I keep extra arrows in the inventory, and of course an Arming sword as a last resort.

with 3 sets of bodkin arrows on my person, and another 3 in my inventory, i have never come close to running out of arrows no matter who i am facing. i will die before i run out of arrows this way.

The only trouble I am having as a solo archer is enemy ranged troops. Sea Raiders and Swadian crossbowmen sometimes give me fits, If I don't stand in exactly the right place they will put two shots into me for every one of them I kill. Playing at normal damage I spend a lot of my time playing dead when I face these foes, I think I'll start using Borcha and a small army to take on my missile armed enemies.

Enemy ranged AI usually spend most of their time just staring at you through the terrain from across the map.. they're the easiest to kill, imo. They don't even bother moving. You can just use terrain or the 3rd person camera to pop out, nail a couple in the head and pop back in, or find an angle on a hill to headshot them while they stand there facing you, bewildered.
