How to rescue clan member (caravan leader) from city dungeon

Background: My clan is a vassal of the Khuzaits, Jalmarys is under Vlandian rule, Derthert owns it. Vlandians haven't been at war with us, but apparently a hostile party defeated one of my companions who was acting as a caravan leader. He is in Jalmarys dungeon, I tried talking to Derthert to barter a release but no option appears. Do i have to declare war and take the city to free him, is it a bug or will he escape/be released in time? I am playing on 1.41

They will be released after some time. You might have to find them again in one of the cities though...

Heh heh. I've replaced 2 surgeons with better ones and instead of kicking them out they get send on never ending war against the embers of the flame and the hidden hand, who I attacked at the start of the game. They win more then they lose but whenever they get captured..... how? Embers and Hand are like joke factions.
