How to replenish troops?

I'm really new to the game hence the noob question: one of my Khergit Skirmishers died in battle and it currently says "Kergit Skirmisher (2/3)". How do I get it back up to 3/3? Do I have to recruit more Kergits and train them up to Skirmisher?

2/3 means the guy is wounded. He'll come round eventually but it may take a while, depending on your wound treatment skill.

...but, yes: if you do have troops killed rather than wounded, you'll have to either train up new ones, rescue similar troops from enemy lords or bandits, or raise your reputation with a village high enough to be able to recruit higher-level troops and hope that you get the kind you need (it's random).  Or hire mercs, which will get you troops that may be similar functionally, but not the same (and much more expensive, to boot).

You can also increase your character or a companion's wound treatment, this will heal your wounded soldiers faster. Increasing surgery skill keeps your men from dying & 1stAid restores points to your character and your companions immediately after ending a battle.
