How to? Mission Templates

Hi people,

I'm in need of some basic knowledge and I hope that someone with it will bother to share it with me.  *hopeless newbie pledge*

What's the difference between a scene (as in module_scene.py) and a mission template (module_mission_template.py)?

For example, do you know the "mission template" (I am not sure if that's what a mission template actually is, just assuming) that you get to play when ambushed by bandits in towns/villages?

Is it possible to make a copy of that template and to use it for sometihng else?

I am thinking of, for example, creating a mission template where you try to help someone kept as a prisioner to escape from the town.

Would this be possible by using the bandit ambush template as base? If so, can I change the spawn points positions from the MS or do I need to use the in-game editor? Also, which are all the files do I need to modify in the MS?

I don't need a detailed description of the changes needed (I am hoping to manage that myself), only which files I would need to modify and why.

Thanks in advance for your time and for the help I trust you will bring.

Ps. I'm going through Jik's tutorial atm, but I am a social kind of learner and thus I would appreciate if I could figure it out by having someone discussing it with me. 'nyone?

First off, if you want to manipulate the module system you need to make small edits (on a hunch) and see what happens-display_message can be invaluable in this.

I am at present working on my own mod. As I know the bloody head battering one can recieve trying to figure out the imaginary brickwalls from the logic of the module system, I'll let you know...
To clarify for you, scenes are the "physical/graphical" environments and mission templates are the rules upon entering such environments. I hope that helps, as it is a subjective statement.

You will need to modify/create a quest. I do not know much about them atm, but I would presume searching through scripts , constants and mission templates for 'quest' will give you a better idea of the places to be copied/modified/edited.
To change spawn points you need to edit a scene file in game. This-for your purposes-may require the creation/copy of a new scene file to be referenced by your quest. I'm not sure.

Hope this helps
