How to make tournaments interesting

Great ideas, especially wooden weapons.

The Tournaments Enhanced mod incorporates some of these features like tournaments being called for events such as peace/weddings/birth/high prosperity, allows you to select from a prize pool, prizes are based on your renown, tourneys affect relations & prosperity, tournaments can be hosted in your own towns and more.

This mod is an example of depth and creativity missing from TW's vision. It's rather kind of troubling.

Like Aggrobiscuit said, there are a couple wooden swords already in the game, as well as some practice weapons, such as blunted spears.

However, there aren't practice varieties for every type of weapon (like axes and javelins, etc.) as far as I can tell, so that might be one reason why they aren't using them in the game yet (if they even intend to at all).

There are also references to different types of tournaments that can be found in the code, such as archery, jousting, and horse racing tournaments, and there's a decent amount of work that has already gone into them. It's hard to say what the status of them is though, whether they're a scrapped feature or still a work in progress.

Oh, that's great news. It means they at least plan(ed) something about it. If those features will be implement, very cool, but if not, at least there's already some resources to make modders life easier when they decide to do something about tournaments.

Indeed, it's a great mod.
I don't use it since I use Bannerlord Tweaks which also covers tournaments, but anyway.
