How to make gold before caravans and workshops?

I know there have been a lot of posts about this but doesn't seem to work for me in early games. Once I get enough gold to buy caravan and workshops then I'm ok, but early game is pretty tough.

I think I don't understand the trading well, is trading how people make money early on to save up for caravans? Is there a good guide that explains how to trade well like what to buy where and where to sell. Everytime I buy something that says sell for X amount in Y town when I go to that town the price is nowhere near what it said initially so I'm not sure if I'm reading these right or it's a bug.

I play on hardest settings, no mods and no cheats.

Well, once you get like 20 guys, looters are not an issue anymore. Kill them, get some gold from them, sell their rags, rinse and repeat until you have like 2k. Then start trading (and keep fighting at the same time). Buy raw materials like iron ore/fur/hardwood - and go to towns that dont have any in stock. Youll get the jist of what the prices are after a while. It's not that hard.
You can increase your load capacity with horses, buy/don't sell any horses you find - youll get a movement speed as well as a cargo capacity increase.
It's easier when your recruits are Khuzait, as you will use horses in a meaningful way and you don't really lose horse archers in a fight.

Get to clan tier 2 by fighting bandits.
Join a kingdom as a merc and fight in wars.
Sell all the loot.

Thank you. I was selling horses like buying cheap horses in aserai or khuzait and selling them in vlandia/battania. Used to make good profit back then but with new patch doesn't seem to be as profitable

Seems to me that everything is being funneled so that the only way to make money is fighting. I am not a fan of that myself.

Well, one still can make some money by trading, winning tournaments and doing quests.

Technically you can, but it is much, much slower than just setting up a solid cavalry army stomping caravans/lords. In earlier patches combat was still king, but a trader playthrough was much more rewarding. Now if you do that you are just gimping yourself.

I'll tell you how I start.
In starting area head to nearest town and pawn you swords and civilian gear, buy 2 stack of tournament arrows. Head east (destroy any looters with your 80 arrows along the way) and along the way check horse villages of the deliver the her quest, take it if therec is one and tell the NPC in the town "I'm keeping the herd for myself". Yes but it's worth it.
Go to khuzait lands and get some recruits to make into tribesmen/raiders as you hunt looters and che k horse villges for the quest more however don't steal the whole heard in khuzait lands, level up only 5 units with the horses and turn in 5 for the quest. When you have 20 raiders go looking for the minor factions like Hidden hand or embers of the flame (save first encase you done goofed) and diliver you demands. These punks just use infantry so your baby HAs can wreck them even 20 against 100. Put them in a good position, aim direction them at the middle (aim is better then default, dunno why) and ride behind the approaching grunts and shoot them making them turn around and try to get you. The charge when they get almost close to your HA formation, when they start to run out of arrows either retreat and repeat OR switch to fallow me and keep every one safe until all are out of arrows then do a jet stream fallow me attack at the edges of remaining enemies until they're done. If you can find them close to a town even better, you can take the full load of prisoners two feed to the ransomer. If you don't want to do this just grind bandits.
Now you've got some good cash from the prisoners and loot so what's next GET MARRIED
Pick a boy or girl that appears to have gear you would like in their encyclopedia page and go wooooo them (save first), thier parent will want between 250 and 7K....... I don't make the rules or understand them..... I think not-the-ruler- clans have cheaper kids though. They usually have an unwanted side arm worth 10k too.
Now you're all set, you've got the gear and the means to produce an error and the men to take down an enemy lord. Be a merc, free hunt minor factions, grind bandits forever.... all up to you.
I don't make caravans or workshops, I just beat lord into the ground.

Thank you, that's helpful

Just bear in mind that it does from my experience now depend on which branch of the game you are playing, 1.4.1 has a greater price range in the trade from my experience to e1.4.2 which the prices have all seem to have been upscaled, in such a manor you rarely (and yes I am playing Aseri with the trade bonus racial background, and the trade goods perk in trade) see say mules below cost of 85, and they can sell now for over 285.

e1.4.2 seems to be grittier, I am not sure but I think arrows go less straight to 1.4.1, your troops get in the way more and I believe friendly fire is on now for my arrows as some of my soldiers/heroes who are more intent now to kill the foes and obscure your vision have fallen to an arrow fired 2 seconds before and then intercepted my shot on their horse. There is a lot more love to wade in with melee - I am not sure if my hits caused the friendlies damage yet.

e1.4.2 has fixed smithing perks worded wrong, fixed the voice trees (eg marriage) that gave an incorrect % chance at the end, added a lot more for the melee builds, and other fixes observed in the game. This does mean that Kurzait may no longer be the best faction to steamroll the map, I am seeing what is currently in effect a cold war between all the factions. So while the above guide is valid for 1.4.1, it may not be so valid (currently) for e1.4.2.

Oh and if your wife is Arwa in e1.4.2 she now comes with a retinue of fairly expensive troops in her own party that can see the troop cost increase by +1800 denars. I have not tested any other spouses, but these also may be the case. Ensure after any marriage you have enough denars to find your wife and do a troop reordering if it is needed

Manual trading, tournament and looters. Mixing all these things and you will able to buy your first workshop at day 20-25.

I can give you some tips about manual trading if you need it.

Thank you. I try not to get married until I have at least caravan or workshop to support her party

Seems to me that everything is being funneled so that the only way to make money is fighting. I am not a fan of that myself.
You can also make money smithing with only several thousand denars and Smith level 1. Make the base 2h sword and extend the blade. Then start to move up in terms of blade tiers.

I feel the same way. Trading used to be a viable way to start the game as you did not need an army. I would recruit a few cav, buy a few mules or sumpter horses and live life as a trader. It is way less viable than it used to be. They had the trader role working pretty well and now they have mostly ruined it.

I guess they won't be satisfied until the vanilla game is completely unplayable. If that is their goal they are making good progress.

?

Mate, just earn money for Your first Tannery and open it in any city U like to. Dont need any hides etc. Tanneries (doesnt matter where) give me 400-700 each. All those oil Presses, Potteries, breweries, and other workshops (except Smithy) are useless for now.
Im not pretty sure its intended but after buying 3 tanneries at Clan Tier 2, setting up a caravans etc Its nothing more than just waste of time, money and companions.

Easy way to become a milionaire

I noticed that as well but I'm afraid that will be nerfed pretty soon . Also it feels like cheating to me so maybe I'll just wait a bit longer for the perks and other things to balance out before starting a new game.
