How to make desert impassable?

I'm sure there's already a similar topic, but I don't like the search function much.

I'm making a new map of Central Europe for the 1257 AD Middle Europe mod, and I want to make some natural boundaries for the map to limit the accessible terain. The desert terrain is useless (not much desert in Central Europe), so if I could make it impassable (like mountains) then I could use it as boundaries. It would look weird if I had a huge strip of mountain in Eastern Europe - where there's mostly plains and steppe, but if I were to put desert there (and change the desert.dds texture to match plain texture) it would look natural.

So how can I make desert impassable?

Simply you want to make the terrain impassable, it is better to make a very small river that you can not see.

No, it wouldn't.
You can't make it impassable. Only river, ocean, and mountain textures are impassable. So just use mountain, the desert will just blend over it so you won't see it anyway.
Well, actually you probably could make it impassable, but there's no point.

Or you know you could learn of the Urals. Move 'em a bit further west to your advantage.

what he said. Draw a single tile wide strip of mountain terrain with desert on both sides of it, and you will see only desert

That's usually caused by the walkable river terrain. Haven't seen those bugs with earth terrain.
