How to make an SCA Axe Head? help, please, help.

Okay, so I just got my first few pieces of rattan and i want make a one/two handed axe. The rattan peice I have for the axe is about 40" long. I looked around on the web and all I can find is how to make carpet throwing axes or buy a hideously expensive rubber axe head, so anyone, please?

Making a axe head is going to be more of a pain than Worth it in my opinion. You can buy a real good axe head hear from Ice Falcon good quality and the price is reasonable. But if you are relay determined to make one, try cutting strips from an old tire. glue then together then tape the head. keep in mind that if you make one depending on the kingdom you are from may be the deciding factor as to weather or not the axe head will pass a marshals inspection. What kingdom are you from?

Well, I guess you could get a block of wood to make up the body of the axe head, then line it with rubber or something of the sort.

Too hard and heavy. You could kill someone with that, rubber or no.

Well, technically, you could kill someone with anything, like say, a pencil. But I see your point. But as it appears he is using Rattan as his base material, it should be lightweight enough.

Rattan might actually be a little too light.  The problem with it, is it's lack of mass.  When you parry a hard strike against you, the Rattan would rather want to give way as opposed to stay put and absorb the impact. 

I would say to go to Home Depot or the like and have them cut you a piece of dowel rod.

thanks guys. was talking to some of the guys at practice and I'm gonna get some 4ml rubber sheeting and cut multiple peices and glue/sew them together.
