well, after nearly a month of struggle with this ****, i've finally figured out how to create, texture, and skin meshes in 3ds max, and then get them into mount and blade.
you need to download fragmotion.
then with 3ds max 9, export as .FBX, and import the FBX into fragMotion.
all of the skinning data will be preserved, but the bones will be renamed, and there might be some extra blank objects like lights, and the damn particle views seeping through the cracks.
in the "skeleton" tab, you need to remove the extra objects, and rename the bones, from Model::1, Model::2 etc. into 1, 2, 3 and such.
then you can export into HL2 SMD, and off ye are.
