how to force map screen after dialog?

Is there a function call you can make in the consquence block of a dialog with a town person to force a return to the map screen after the conversation ends? (instead of going back to the scene). I've tried the change_screen_return/map/quit functions but they either do nothing (map/return) or crash M&B (quit).

I'm all out of ideas. Any help is appreciated.
 
Set a variable and then have a trigger in the mission template check it and exit out of the mission immediately. This will put you in the game menu, where you again have to check the variable and exit out if set.

Hope this helps, I don't have time to elaborate, but it should be clear enough if you've played with mission templates and game menus.
 
Yes, I was thinking about forcing a scene change and exit. Thanks for confirming the method. I'll try it out tonight. It seems overly complicated though. There really needs to be a function call you can make.
