How to follow someone on the world map without interacting with them?

For example, if I just want to follow an army or runaway serfs without interacting with them what would I press? This is for the world map, it can be very annoying clicking a million times and eventually you'll lose site of the army. Also, with serfs they'll just turn around and go back to where they were running. Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand your problem - see if this helps:
1) Left click on the group you want to follow...if you are faster than them you will gain ground.
2) Just before you link up with your target, press the space bar and hold it and they will begin to pull away. repeat.
3) Or use cheats and CTRL+left click near them, wait till they move, then CTRL+left click again [saves time trotting all over the bloody map]!

I often have the same problem LightKnight has. To me it occurs annoying when I have to follow a king, but the king moves slower than me or often stops to raid a village and such. So I would like to follow the king without interacting with him when I reach him. Just like all the lords do; they follow him automatically when he moves and stop to wait when he does.

The thing is I can follow him around by clicking him and then pressing space when I'm about to reach him but it is kinda frustrating. I'd rather have my hero follow the king automatically. There could be an option to follow a party like this when you right click the party (I remember there being a 'follow' option there, but it only makes the hero go and interact with the party instead of following the party until further notice).

This is a simple thing, but I wanted to explain it in more detail since davecheeney didn't get what LightKnigth was talking about.

Another related thing is herding cattle. It needs a massive amount of clicking to get the cattle go your way. That could also be executed better.

EDIT:to answer LightKnight's dilemma briefly: There isn't an easy way to follow a party without interacting with it to my knowledge. For now atleast.
