I always have the little girl with me, I want my Skullcracker bodyguard to come with me!

Maybe if you move the ones you want to the top of your party? If that doesn't work it probably can't be controlled by the player

I am on the same situation, I tried changing the position in the party but didn't seem to work.

After being defeated, somehow they changed and now I have the skullcracker with me, but no idea why

I have the same problem
Changing the troop order and move them to the top does nothing.

Is it order that they joined the party? My first companion is the one who comes with me and that might explain why it changed after a defeat, if you added Skullcracker first then.

Pretty sure it's chronological, the way they joined you originally. I'm also disappointed that your spouse won't join you into settlements when they're in the party.

Yeah it seems to be the first person to join your party. I'm going to start a new game soon (the Khuzait Khanate have take over every faction in the game except for Vlandia and Aserai in less than 100 days) so I'm going to take a chance and kick out companions until I get the one I want coming into town with me. Then rehire them and see if the same person keeps coming into town with me or not.

I remember holding LAlt in while in town/villages and could see the names of my companions show up. They were all loitering about the place. I could speak to the one companion who's following me ask him to go collect every one in tower and tell them to follow me too.

I thought it might be like in Warband where it's based on your party order on the list, but that does not seem to be the case. Instead it seems to be based on the order of companions in your clan-list, which unfortunately cannot be sorted in any way.

It seems to be based on order of joining the party, since you can affect it by being defeated and re-grouping your party in a different order. I was also able to leave a companion behind in a town, then go walk in a different town/village, then come back the grab the person I left behind to change the order.

Anyone notice that when you talk with your companion in town, there's an option to tell them, "You can stop following me."

I never tried it, but what does that do? Tell them not to follow you in towns, or make them leave the party?

I'm hoping they change this later on (or maybe it's unintended?). With the current leveling system, a combat spouse tends to be the strongest member of the party lmao.

That just lets them roam/idle in the town for the duration of your visit.

I always assemble them all if I decide to go to combat in town (there's an options for that), cause I'm the cheap bastard who refuse to buy them armor initially ( and lazy to buy armor for them now after I had 800k).

So...go companion, with your 100-300 gold equipment mixing with some bandit loots XD

you can talk to your only companion and ask him to go gather the others or you can press ALT and you see them in the city at the tavern, market, etc, just go find them and ask them to follow/gather the others.

You should be able to choose who to accompany you, and all companions should be available in the city, because not everyone is :/

When I have 5-6 companions, sometimes I can only get 3-4 in town which is annoying.

Figured as much. Worth a thought, though.

From the looks of it, it's a partially implemented feature. Ideally, if they end up expanding the interactions one can have with NPCs while wandering around a settlement, it would be awesome to be able to choose a companion that specifically augments your skills for a given task.

So, for example, if I have a high Charm skill, but I bring a companion along with a high Intimidate skill...then I'll be given two good chances of getting what I'm after.

Me: "Listen. It's basically about [insert scenario]. We don't want to complicate things any more than you do."

NPC: "Not buying into that drivel. You better have more than that to shovel."

Companion: "Alright, how about...?" (Pulls a blade faster than any of them can reach for their own.) "...simple survival?"

You can choose who will be in town from your party. Before entering there's a + to the right of the local important people.
I used this so I could pop the npc for the family feud quest who don't spawn in town. Although it did not work 100% after I reloaded...

That's not choosing who accompanies you, that's just placing them in the city.
I put all my companions in the city and I still had the same following me, and still not all available to follow me.

You can ask the companion following you to round up all your other companions in town then they'll all follow you round and you can start a fight with the local thugs.
