How to actually defend your castle during the siege?

This is so annoying. I put my archers on the castle walls during preparation phase but as soon as battle begins, they all just GTFO from the walls and wait on the ground level. The result is the enemy effortlessly breaching the walls since no one is actually defending them. How to force them to hold position?

That put me off from playing the game for now. I can't make my units do the most sensible thing and just hold position on the walls and wait for the enemy, it killed my fun.

Yeah, i've stopped playing the save that I formed my kingdom and got a few cities.

The biggest problem is the troops need to man siege weapons or perform siege actions overrides your orders, which results in guys breaking ranks and running off to their deaths. in a few cases i had to give up the outer wall and fall back using shield wall and archers on balcony to keep the enemy from succeeding but still lost lots of men to running off.

In my opinion, they really need to focus on this and fix it asap. Sieges are such an integral part to Mount and Blade. I was having so much fun just defeating my enemy with pure tactics with big numbers disadvantage. Got my first castle and the sieges are a bloody mess...

I role play that the governor of the town or the commander of the town guard has taken control of the siege defence and you’re more of a lordly warrior who fights but only suggests commands to the commander who may accept or refuse your commands as that’s what the ai seem to do
Makes for a decent playing that doesn’t annoy me because none of the troops do as I say

The other major flaw i have seen is that the archers do not engage correctly on the walls so about half or more just stand there getting shot and not returning fire.

Yea, I feel like it's not siege specific as well. Sometimes I just sniped an enemy lord with my bow from afar and he didn't give a ****.
