How much do you increase your relation with the Villages?

Hello!

This seems a tricky question that I yet need to figure out...

- Having a super high relation with one village seems bad if it gets raided (and not always you are around to protect it), because you won't have too many other sources. And specially when creating your own Kingdom, you need as much troops as you can recruit because the enemy will come on force and you need these peasants to give you battle advantage.

- But increasing just slightly with many villages seems to have no effect at all but being able to recruit from them while you're at war with their Kingdom. I've experimented increasing to 8-10 and they seemed to not give me more recruits than the ones which I just had 0. Not even a little. On average, it was the same.

So my question is: By how much do you use to increase your relation with each village? 10? 20? 30? 50? I don't need quality, just quantity and I train the poor ones if I need.

Bonus question: Does anyone know the maths of troops quantity/quality in each village? Renown/Relation/Random Chance/Etc.
(Assuming Diplomacy doesn't change it from Native)

When playing with Diplo I set my taxes to very low and do a few quest for them so that my village is at 99.  The rest I have no specific aim... but I'd say I'm happy when the rep is at about 30 or more.

From the Fief Guide in the single player manual thread:
[about the effects of higher rep with a fief]
2) increasing the number and quality of recruits you can hire from a village. This result can be huge - for every 10 relation you have with a village, you have a 10% chance of the troop you hire being one tier higher than recruit. With relationship 90, for example, you get 9 chances. If you have more than one of the chances comes off, you can end up recruiting things like 25 Swadian Men-at-arms! Villages with negative relations will not provide recruits.
Mods like Diplo tweak that formula to include honor and renown.

edit: looking over the Diplo thread, they actually tweak it even more than that:  "Amount of recruits available in villages will depend on honour, renown, being owner, being king, domnestic policies "

I don't know about the Diplomacy mod, but in Native the calculation for how many troops you recruit from a village is pretty straight-forward.

At 3 or less relation you get a "small" recruitment. I think that's 0-8 units by default.

At 4 or more relation you get a "large" recruitment, which calculates your relation to the village, divides it by two, and adds some fixed number to get the maximum units you can recruit at a time. Basically, the higher your relation, the more recruits you can get.

I used TweakMB to change the actual numbers. I can get 0-80 units at 99 relation (not that I ever get that high in practice...)

Yes I see that the higher the relation the more higher tier troops you can get. But I'm actually more concerned about quantity. The problem as I said, is that too high relation with one village you need to stay alert because if it gets raided... But too low relations with many villages doesn't seem to make a difference too. I'm thinking about leaving at 20-30 each village. Should be sufficient? I hope so... Didn't know Diplomacy changed so much!

Best I've ever gotten is 16 Nord Veterans from a village I had 80 relations with.

But did the quantity decrease because of the quality or as Filou posted it has nothing to do with that?

I suspect that is what happened but 16 Nord Veterans is nothing to sneeze at.  A couple of fights and most of them became huscarls.

I wasn't talking about quality. I was only talking about quantity. Quality is a separate calculation, done independently of the quantity calculation.

As your relation with the village goes up, the average quantity of recruits you get goes up too. The minimum is always 0, though. You will always have a better chance at getting more units with higher relations. TweakMB can be used to change the numbers, the basic concept is still the same. Higher relations = more troops.

What I observed is that you get a chance to get higher tier troops, but you also get a chance at higher numbers.  With very high relations it's not rare that the amount available is enough to fill-up my party, which can be 50 or more guys.

And then sometimes you hit both rolls and get something along the best recruitment that I can remember: 30 Veagir Marksmen from my village at relation 99.  I was using Diplo, but I can't remember if I was king or not at the time.
