Hello people,

one of the benefits of smithing is customizing the length of your shaft, pole or er...blade.
Anyway what do you think is the optimal length of each weapon for different situations?
On a horse, on foot and in a siege.
Also what kind of weapon do you prefer in those situations?
one-handed sword, mace or axe? Two handed Sword or axe or maybe some pole arm?

I've been dicking around with two-handed swordson a horse but it's not always easy to hit my targets.
And in sieges pole-arms are often to long to get a strike in.
Let me know your preference.

Cheers,

Marty

I like maces, probably based on Warband > maximising prisoners, which I'm not even sure is still the case in Bannerlord.

Using one from a horse to chase down fleeing bandits (I 'direct' most battles rather than do much fighting, often playing with a trackpad on a laptop), need to experiment with the smithing to extend the shaft but maintaining optimal handling by reducing the size of the head. (More intricate than maximising everything on a two handed sword to sell for 100k+). Which reminds me, one of the mace handles is bugged - the wooden one with an iron extension seems to not include the iron in the 'reach' calculation, though it displays it as part of the 'length'.

I like long as possible one handed weapons, in pretty much all situations. The longer the better. On horse back the longer length allows me to hit units without having to be right next to them. In siege the reach advantage can be used on the ladders. You can get yourself to a point on the ladder where you can reach the enemy but they can't quite reach you.

Simply put, longer is better, and usually always has been. On horse, you wan the longest lance, that way you can couch someone before they can couch you. Same with swinging polearms and axes on horse. For sieges, I go bow, but I also carry the longest swing-able 2H weapon (polearm, axe, or sword, that way when I climb a siege ladder I can hack at the units crowding above me without them able to reach me. I have single-handedly taken entire towns without the aid of armies solely with a bow, shield, and long 2H weapon (glean arrows from fallen troops as needed). The only place you need a short weapon is when it is too crowded to swing vertically (such as a low ceiling or doorway), and even then you can just retreat to where you can swing.

The long glaive is the best weapon. All attempt to smith a similar long weapon were inferior, but I never unlcocked all the parts to actually make long glaive. All requests for recipes or examples of Superior smithed weapons only yielded durpy examples that just showed the replier knows less then the asker about the question.

On foot in siege 3 stacks of arrows.
Hideout shilled and sword bow arrows.

I say you need close to 120 weapon longs for a weapon to be useful on horse back, any shorter you will likely get hit first. Spear and lance aren't good because you must move towards an enemy to hit them, meaning high change of taking bonus damage.

Long Horizontal swings rule.

Long enough to cut an spine out from head to toe (Barbarian stuff)...PS. I did it Piconi i finally managed to do an .gif file ^^

Well it depends on your fighting style i would say. But yeah if you´re on a horse i would go for the longer the better since you want distance. But then i would bring a shorter something with me or perhaps throwing knives or javelins that have an multi purpose (wish axes where here to) in case you get unmounted or need to un mount because of the terrain

All weapons are excellent in the right set of mastery and mind
Myself im role playing so i restrict my weapons acc to the character. Can def say that throwing knives are´nt as bad as i first thought. Slick bastards those  and are good to use on horseback to

I've been experimenting a bit and this is what I found so far.

I made the longest Falxblade polearm I could (reach 283) and while admittedly my skill isn't very high yet (around 130) it was way too slow. I'll keep experimenting with polearms. By the way, it seems impossible to craft couchable lances, so the longest couch lance I found was 200 I think. Too bad.

I also made a couple of 2handed swords. The big unit for on horse (length 145) and that performs pretty good. In sieges not so much. Not enough room to swing. So I also made a short 2handed Pointed Falchion (length 103) and that seems pretty effective. Fast, good in enclosed spaces and with plenty of damage.

Going to test some 1handed weapons I made (axe, mace and sword) for the various tasks. I'll let you all know what I find out.

Cheers,

Marty

its not the length that matters, its how you use it.

When selecting a lance shaft in the smithing window, they list 'one handed polearm', 'two handed polearm' underneath. Some say 'two handed polearm' twice - if you use one of those, it should be couchable when crafted.

Well I'll be damned. You're right! Thanks for the tip!
Any more insights about smithing that I may have missed?

Unless I have to 1vs1 someone I prefer the longest/strongest weapon possible even if it's slow. Parries, blocks and feints take a backseat to range and damage when you're surrounded by a group.

only for max damage and cool looking, the longest and heaviest 2h axe, dont matter the handling or speed, i only care about the damage bc dont matter how many swim you can do in a short time if with one hit you kill 3+ dudes
