How long does the lance couch for?

Sometimes when I gain speed the lance already couches and it stays that way as long as I retain speed. But sometimes I have to press X and it only does it for a few seconds. i could be getting mixed up between Warband but I don't know. Anybody experience the same?

when you go uphill or down hill or hit an enemy then your speed lowers. When your speed lowers you uncouch your lance until you either get back up to speed or the delay timer resets

IF you have it on automatic mode[lance control] it will lower. But if you have it on manual then you need to press X.

Don't forget you also need to press X in Multiplayer! Doesn't matter if you have it on automatic.

P.S little clue, the couch lasts for 4 seconds if you press X
