How is your performance in Sieges?

So the path-finding issues is supposed to be fixed since 1.0.4, and there was certainly a clear improvement, but in some cities it is still really bad.

Field battles are running smooth as silk, but in sieges, as soon as any form of Ladders touch these cursed walls, my FPS drops down to below 20.
It still seems that it's being caused by the path-finding, since commanding all men to Stop immediately improves the performance. Also, was checking resource monitor on secondary screen in a siege, and neither CPU or GPU goes above 80% which I think is really weird since it's lagging like hell. In field battles however, my GPU can reach 100%, but no lag at all.

I hope the developers know that this is still an issue - maybe keep this thread alive so that the developers may see it?
Perhaps someone could make a mod that completely removes ladders from sieges and replace them with say.. A Battering ram that has a higher amount of HP or something?

My CPU isn't the best one that's for sure, but field battles with 500 troops are running smooth enough (60 FPS, sometimes it goes down to 40, but quickly recovers).

Before the 1.0.4 patch sieges were absolutely unplayable, 8 FPS as soon as troops reached the walls.

Right now the situation is somewhat better, but FPS is very unstable. At the beginning I have about 50 FPS, when the ladders are up and the troops begin storming the walls and breaching the gates, I get a severe FPS drop down to 30, but if I look, for example, at the fight near the gates (there are always large numbers of troops) - I get another drop down to 20-25 FPS. I also get severe framedrops when refinforcements are spawned, then it goes up to normal.

For now I'd like to say that Sieges are somewhat playable, but still very unstable and need additional optimization tweaking.

Yeah, I get some FPS drops in sieges, but what really gets me is the fact that troops are still having enormous trouble getting up ladders and ramps. They all cluster at the bottom unable to get up while they get pelted to death with arrows, javelins and god knows what else.

It's.... annoying to say the least.

Yeah, I still remember the moment when I climbed up the siege tower, started killign the defenders, got surrounded very fast, hoping that my troops will back me up. Imagine my frustration when I was killed, looked in the free camera where were my troops and saw that they were like performing some ritual dances around the tower. So, turned out, I've climbed on the wall alone. Nearly flipped over my table

You are not alone in this... well, you were alone atop the wall... but not alone in... being alone... atop the wall.

Actually good sir, there are times when 1 or maybe, just maybe 2 of my men join me on top of the wall, but don't worry because the hundreds of dudes at the bottom do make sure that we're all dead before they rinse and repeat. 2 at a time folks!

I have bad FPS at sieges.
In standart battle i have 100 fps.
In sieges 10-15.
500 troops.
(x3440, gtx1050 ti)

i get a GPU / direct 3D crash everytime i start a campain siege but worked with fps drops in costume battles
intel HD 4000/ 8 giga ram

Have y'all tried to see if there is any difference when you're commanding the army committing to the siege yourself? I'm having similar issues with sieges.

I'm wondering if lag could be decreased by having a player command the siege directly (rather than delegate, as is default). If we tell the groups of soldiers to go up the ladders, will they do it better?

i managed to play some and few sieges by lowering my resolution scale + screen Resolution, or crash

This is true.
Oh how good it feels when my party decides to use the buddy system while scaling the walls...
I guess they figure that anymore than two at a time would just be rude.

I havent played a siege battle for a few patches... But yea I can barely play em, pretty bad fps. Field battles are no problem at all.

Oddly enough I dont have issues with siege battles in MP so I guess it has to do with the AI trying to interact with siege equipement or somethin

The lag is most certainly from the NPC soldiers on then attacking side. In MP sieges, everyone is human.

I tried it, it depends on what commands you give.
For example, telling your men to Charge will cause it to lag since it is trying to find the path to the closest enemy.
Telling you men to follow you seems to be fine though, but not really practical if you have a large army.
Moving them manually from position to position also works fine, but once you charge then the lag immediately begins again.

i have a decent build. i7-9700k and rtx2070. I still lag in siege battles. It really starts when the towers deploy their ramps and rams knock down the gates. For me this has made things a little better. My cavalry usually makes up 30-40% of my army, so i set them to hold position and do nothing at the very back that way less units are engaged. It has really helped. still drop to like 10 fps, but than 10 frames per minute LOL

After the latest patch in getting great fps even in a 1000 unit size siege. Last patch was a big improvement. Also try setting shadows to static instead of dynamic. Makes a difference

Mine's a little stuttery. I'm running a 1080Ti 11-GB, 32GB RAM, 8-core i7, on 1440p, and l jump around a bit with everything on highest settings. Going down to medium/low before sieges helps, but hell if I'm going to do that for every siege. Turning off dynamic shadows and changing to normal SMAA helps a bit, but not as much as I'd like. Guess no one has figured out how to optimize 1000 troop battles in the AI without the computer catching on fire.
