Still no joy on ranks...

Kill large groups of banditos with a fraction of the men, and you will get your renown.

Aha, I see  I did wonder.

Update: I got sick of eeking out 2 Renown a fight, so I cheated via the cheat menu (deal with it) to get more Renown to get my rank of Sergeant & Foot Guards Light Fusilier Sergeants uniform. Now I'm leading a company (54 all ranks) of British Light Infantry with Ymira & the other woman follower-NPC in Hussar uniforms (fashion or something) as my mobile force on horseback. Just need to get an officer follower-NPC now - I do have Bunduk but he's my pseudo-Corporal although I can't find any Corporal's uniforms though, maybe a side effect of the cheat.

Lt commanding about a platoon and a half of Jaegers and supported by 2 12 pounders, for the glory of Austria or something, Poland is mighty fine after 40 days and my attempt to besiege Rome all by myself went south.

Edit: Make that two platoons and a half.

I'm playing an English merchant. That means I'm trying to make money without waging wars on anyone. I'm mostly doing boring ass cattle drives or escorting caravans around. The plan is to get some weaveries going in England and get rich from that. I will probably get involved in the English army once I'm a rich industrialist to protect the business and maybe expand. (I'm only going to start businesses in English cities). I named him Roger Sterling, you know who that references. The hatchet just seems to match the rugged capitalist persona he is. It will take a while to get factories everywhere, but god damn it, that money stream will be worth it.

I'll get some better threads when I'm packing enough cash

My first character was an Olviopol Hussar leading an advance guard.

Now I am playing Cornelis Tromp, a Dutch man who disillusioned about the new Bonaparte monarchies travelled east to fight the French. As the Russians were hiring all kind of foreigners he went to St. Petersburg and joined a Yeger Regiment. After the war against Prussia I did some quests which included breaking free a German prisoner from Paris and trying to start a war with the Kingdom of Holland to drive away king Lodewijk Bonaparte. This enraged the French and now we are at war with his big brother.

I did a small campaign in Italy leading a group of Yegers with a Cossack scouting party attached. After laying waste to the land I ran into General Lassale who fortunately only lead a small contingent of troops. Now we are falling back to the motherland and trying to find the main army for the French campaign.

Actually, how large is a platoon in Napoleon's Grand army? I only know of the WW2 Fallschirmjager platoon size... Leading 19 Brunswick jagers and an assortment of French grenadiers (mostly French Imperial guards and got 6 old guards too ) plus 2 12-pounders.

organization_of_French_regiment.gif

The company was an administrative unit, the tactical unit was the platoon (peloton). In 1808-1815 each company consisted of 140 men:
- 1 captain
- 2 leutenants
- 1 sergeant-major
- 4 sergeants (They were gritty, hard-bitten lads who kept the troop well under control.)
- 1 furrier
- 8 corporals
- 2-3 drummers
- 121 privates

So in the French army, is a platoon the same as a company or is a company composed of two platoon like in the Russian Imperial Army?

Well. I'm rich now. Time to get involved in politics I guess. I hired Ducos as personal assistant.

Due to the new patch I exported my character (level 20, focused on training, looting and shooting ) and restarted the game fighting for Poland holding off the Austrian juggernaut.

Not going to lie, spent most of it leading Polish Grenadiers in hit and run assaults, constantly leaving men behind to cover the retreat of the rest and constantly fighting losing battles alongside other Polish forces, in other words we were getting hammered.
Despite the constant defeats and every single polish village getting massacred, we managed to hold the line and eventually a peace was formed, mainly because France is kicking the crap out of Austria, whilst Britain has made peace with near enough everyone and sitting on the side lines holding feasts. I'm also happy to say we didn't lose a single city, but I think this was more due to luck than skill.

Seeing as my time was up with the now peaceful Duchy of Warsaw, decided to sign on with the Prussians, taking my 'Polish Legion' as they are now known into the cold winters of Russia... so far my Polish boys are doing better than their Prussian comrades, its handy that Russia does not seem to have much cavalry, they just charge my lines of Polish Grenadiers human wave style in a big blob, they tend to get gunned down by my guns and artillery.

Just taken back Estrog (the Prussian city on the border) and now advancing into Russia alongside the rest of the Prussian Army..... onward to victory Polish Legion!

New patch had to start over but having fun. joining  a faction getting soldiers and fighting musket sword cannon way i like it. It going very well i have to start over since 1.2 patch but it a fun game to play

Damn, a peace treaty has been signed between Prussia and Russia, meaning Prussia now has nobody to fight.

Where should I take my Polish Legion next? France maybe?

Also, is there a way for me to leave a faction without pissing off it's leader? Can I just run to Paris and join their Army?

Screw it, Ill try now, watch for an edit on this post!

EDIT: Nope, can't speak to a foreign Regimental liason, looks like Ill just have to say to the Kaiser 'Sorry! I'm off to the next war and taking my men with me!'

I succesfully took Salzburg from the Austrians with the hlep of Marshals Lannes and Bernadotte! Prag seems to be our next move! Things are looking good for France right now!

So, after packing in with the Kaiser and letting my Polish troops go back to the peaceful Duchy I decided to sign on with The Confederation of the Rhine.
They are only at war with the UK who are also at war with several other nations, so spent most of it training up Bavarian line infantry and fighting the odd skirmish.
And then... peace got signed again!

Rather than hop to yet another faction (so far gone from Poland, to Prussia and now to the Rhineland) I decided to actually remain loyal for once, so spent the next 30 or so ingame days training up the troops, doing missions for Lords, and doing tasks for villages and cities, I can now recruit lots of men in a hurry if I need to.
Was then escorting a caravan to Bordeux when suddenly....

'FRANCE HAS DECLARED WAR ON THE RHINELAND'

The caravan got attacked and wrecked by the now hostile french grand army and I only managed to get back to friendly lines, where the rest of the Bavarian forces are massing for an attack.

Time to go, war is calling, France isn't at war with anyone either, so they will probably outnumber us, bring it on!
