Firstly hi all, hope everyones had a good christmas and has a good new year!

Aside from the above question I loved prophecy of pendor and prior to that I didnt really put much mods on , thats even on games in general but heck is there some talented modders on these forums, some of them make Warband like a new game.

In essence was wanting a consise run down or even linked to a post which could provide a rundown of quirky additions. I like the locations in game, I like how you need protection to sell Whiskey in Scotland; I actually come from Scotland and thats true to life I can tell you!

Regarding trading, is it feasible to make lots of money without trading? Its just I usually prefer to task run and not trade.

Hoping this is a fun mod, seems to have a ton of people playing it which is always a good sign

I like to roam the land as a bard, getting reputation and fame aswell as gold, but remember you can lose it. When you can't get a job, you can simply join a little fight in the arena, get 100 pieces and move on. Quite fun in that way, and there is so much more to do! I think you should download this, no matter how long it takes (took someone 5h ()).

This isn't PoP, it's Brytenwalda. It's different and people play it . . .

Seriously, just play it rather than wasting your time looking for other opinions when really only one is going to matter in the long run anyway, yours.

Brytenwalda is a great mod, maybe the best there is or will ever be.
When i choose a mod its normaly because im interested in something that its about.

I like the 1755 Old frontier mod because its based around the film last of the mohicans which i liked and you get to shoot the French.
Imperium Romanum mod because it uses Brytenwalda as its base to mod from, and who dont like the romans
Ive played PoP because its very well made and would be rude not to.
1257 mod is great for medieval.
So get them all i say and never leave your PC again

Thanks all, really good feedback, was just out at New Year there and I feel like I need a liver transplant today, in which case thats a great excuse to start playing Brytenwalda. I will get the old frontier mod as well.

Appreciated all!

*update

Just started playing, pretty damn good first impressions and thats before I have made it out of the first town, notice loads of attention to detail already, I am wandering whether I should leave all the mod options at default or disable weapon breaking? Still would make sense to see how it plays as is , the only thing I adjusted was to enable realism as per instructions

My suggestion: you wait two days, 1.39 will be out soon, and it isnt compatible with old savegames.

Thanks for that, I am enjoying what I have played thus far however it seems in my trail to get a faster download mirror I have downloaded version 1.35 . Ahh well its np and thats good another version is due out soon!

First of all, these mods are VERY different.

While in pop its easy to get and upgrade an army - in Walda its fairly easy to get one but it costs allot of money to upgrade and pay the wages.
Combat - In pop its fairly fast and somewhat "cartoonish"/"fluid" in Walda its far more "realistic"/"clunky". This comes down to individual preferences.
Enemies - While in pop you have allot of minor factions and 5 major totally different factions.
In Walda you have just about 3 or 4 minors, and about 15 mediocre (size wise) factions divided into about 5 different "cultures".

In terms of what to do... you are basically only limited by your own imagination, on both games i think.

It boils down to the fact that one is set in a fantasy world, while the other is somewhat anal about being historically accurate. As obvious as it sounds, i think this is the derisive factor for many.
Both can stand on their own, as full blown titles if you ask me (along with 1257).
Few flaws can be found, that dont fall in the "individual preference" category.

Brytenwalda is one of the few most promising mods out there, along with 1257, europe1200 and maybe Sword of Damocles. Promising, because all of them have their problems: 1257 has unbalanced prices and problems running on slow pcs, europe 1200 is ugly compared to the other mods, and sod is ugly and needs some balancing.

Of those mods, Brytenwalda is problably the most "ready" mod - and, if the sea battles are working and the running man is cought, the one with the least errors.
I love this mod (as I love the other mentioned above), but I hated PoP (though I loved some of its features), so maybe its the other way around for you. If I were you, I would def. try it though - it´s worth it!

Rather, Brytenwalda is what this game is supposed to play! To bad for the few pagan factions, I always end up at Mierce, gotta love Penda!

Brytenwalda has a lot more content, plus it doesn't have the political correctness of PoP (HURR WOMEN BEING EQUALS IN BATTLE). That really put me off, but overall PoP is a fairly good mod.. just doesn't compare to Brytenwalda at the moment. I would suggest you wait for 4.0 and then make comparison. The factions are dull in both mods, but when it comes to troops I gotta say PoP owns brytenwalda. Kierguards > all. Bryt just doesn't have any truly unique/memorable troops, but when it comes to just about ANYTHING else, it's superior to PoP. So yeah, troops is the only thing PoP has over bryt.

I'd say the two are roughly equal but VERY very different.

Brytenwalda has a lot more territory/factions/leaders and is much more 'gritty'...as befits a dark ages mod. PoP is unabashedly 'high fantasy' and a wonderful romp around as a 'proper' Knightly figure on a charger smashing hordes of bad guys. To me, both have nearly endless opportunity for hundreds of days of play time but they play completely differently.

As a tryhard modder I can say that Idi and crew have made a mod that can very well be a full standalone game , people would pay money for it... oh and it's got Freelancer also
