How does the Skills learning limit system work?

So I've been playing a quite bit on my campagins, but I never seem to fully understand the learning limit for Skills.

For example: I've put 5/5 Focus points into Leadership and after a while I just managed to put 10/10 Attribute points.
Yet it says I have learning limit by a total of "+240". I am currently at 65 on that catergory, but does that mean I can still reach 275 for the last skill?
I have some categories where I currently have 12 and 18 yet my learning limit on those says +10. It doesn't make sense if I couldn't, but I am a bit confused.

There's a soft limit and a hard limit. The soft limit is 10 per attribute over 1 and 30 per focus point. After that your XP multiplier drops rapidly up to the hard limit of (IIRC) 14 per Attribute and 42 per focus point. In your example, the soft limit is 240 but the hard limit should be 336, I think.
