How does the Disciplinarian Perk works and how to mod it?

I want to change bandit units to upgrade into mercs instead of faction nobles, and also add a T6 merc tier that can only be accessed through the Disciplinarian Perk either by upgrading bandits or T5 mercs. I do not see any tags in the xmls that interact with the perk.

Which version are you using? I'm pretty sure the Disciplinarian got fixed a while back. Also, there are mods that allow upgrading bandits without the perk. Maybe thoso will help.

1.2, but i figured out how it works already.
Changing the bandit xml files to upgrade into anything other than bandits requires the Disciplinarian perk, it seems the "occupation = bandit" is what the game checks to see if you are upgrading units outside the bandit tree, I managed to make the bandits upgrade into mercs just fine, but it seem that making the mercs upgrade to T6 using the perk is not doable right now.
