How does SoD handle fiefs in Lords hands?

Would you wait and build up a castle yourself before giving it to a lord or can you give the castle to a lord right a way and don't have to worry about uprading it? Does the lord manage the castle himself and if not is he still able to hire/train top tier troops, faith, nobility?

Also, I read in the FAQ that towns (castles as well maybe?), which are under your direct control, will train troops, I mean not just conscript new ones, but train them into higher tier troops. I haven't seen so? Do I still have to wait until the * appears next to the troop to take them into my army, then upgrade them via marshall and move them back into town?

Lords won't upgrade anything for you, but they still require the various facilities to upgrade.  However, you can build in a fief even if you've already given it away, so you don't have the constant game of give-and-take.  You'll see scripts as you go telling you who upgraded troops, and if not, they remind you they need facilities.

You can set garrison orders (nation-wide) from the Marshall: ranged, infantry, or both. They'll slowly get low-tier units that will need to be upgraded as they get experience. As above, your other lords will upgrade these; you'll need to train troops in your own castles or cities though.

As far as I know, Lords can't get nobles or faith units unless you give those units to the lords.

Lords are a real pain... i am sick of them.
Whatever you tell them to do, they will do what they want.

I know this is supposed to be realistic, but a lord leaving a siege to do... god knows what, is frustrating and *not* realistic.
They are useful only when you have a ****load of them, but when you just starts your kingdom and have only 1 or 2 lords, their only use is to reduce your upkeep because in campain their are WAY too undisciplined. I mean : stupids.
