How does battle banner and horn work?

The horn and banner I can buy in shops, as well as the horn- and bannermen I have in my army. I'm trying to figure out the basics of these things and weather they are even needed at all.

1. Is there an AOE around the banner or does it effect the whole battlefield? I usually prefer to place the banner and hornmen far behind with the woman and archers.

2. Do I need to visably wield the banner or does it work even if I have it "in my side-pocket" while fighting with a sword and axe? I usually give my companion with high surgeon skill a crossbow and a banner "in his pocket".

3. Is the moral effect from the horn/banner only there to stop my units from routing or does it carry some added combat steroid? I question weather I need these things in my army, because I've never seen my men flee before I had these things. It feels useless to maintain something that has no impact.

AFAIK, banners must be equipped and benefit all your forces. players horns offer (huge) temporary boost when blown, believe hornmen are the same. (this is more of a guess from my experience, don't take my word for it)

If I remember correctly I think I looted it.

So as I understand you: Regardless of weather it's wielded or not, and regardless of location of these items, the buff applies to all men on the whole battlefield. What kind of boost are we talking about from these horns?

No the banners have to be wielded I believe and yes it applies to all your men (not sure about allies)

For the horns I've had nord companions (tier 3) hold their own against elite vikings party 3/4 their size which is not supposed to happen (full damage to allies was on). It provides a large short burst of adrenaline basically and pretty sure it can be spammed
