How do you stop yourself from quitting and starting over?

I always get to a point in the game where I say, "Hmmn, this got boring or tedious, or bureaucratic, or whatever and then I start a new game.

Part of me would like to keep playing and playing but at some point you just stop leveling and all that is left is to take over castles, try to keep your lords happy, hold a few feasts, and along the way try not to go broke.

I just run out of new things to do and then things I am doing are so repetitive that I want to start over.

Sometimes I wish there was something else in the game. Some ancient armor from old Calradia, a sword made with technology long lost, or an invasion, or to maybe actually build something other than just taking from other lords.  Anything more than the endless grind to get the next level.

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't stop myself, I usually race through about 450 days and then start over as soon as it starts getting either too easy or too annoying.

Actually, I think the day 1238 reference shows he may have answered his own question.

No. I still want to quit. I just played longer because I've only been playing a few weeks and the game is still new.

In fact I tried to play POP last night and last about 5 minutes.  Maybe I need to take a little break from the game.

As for playing on realistic mode--it's a good idea. I've done it before but with occasional game lock ups it could ruin an entire game by getting me into something that I can't unsave or load from an earlier save.

I have enough willpower to just not cheat if I want to which is about the same thing.

I'm actually playing Diplomacy with PBO and currently I'm at day 1238.
Sounds like early game to me!     Just finished day 2330.  After 230 days of peace the Vaegirs decided it was time to fight me instead of the Sarranids.  I guess I am easily amused....

Seriously, my approach has been slow and careful throughout, but what keeps my interest (apart from the fact that I am using the aforementioned Floris Mod Pack) is I set goals for myself which may or may not have much to do with "winning".  For example, I was using this period of peace to attempt to become the richest, most beloved King.  So I spent a lot of time experimenting with different trading routes and optimizing bandit harvesting.  While doing so I continued to train and level up forces which I then gave to my vassals when we hold feasts.  You give a vassal a dozen level 6 troops and they quickly grow fond of you.    I've experimented with all horse and all foot forces of various sizes just to see how what happens, although I admit fighting bandits is not quite the same as fighting other lords.  I also hired my wife on as a companion which adds a new wrinkle to battles if you act like you really care about her, which I do.  Trying to shepherd her in battle has made that a new experience.

I only have managed to garner about 650,000 denars, while Herlaus still has 750,000 if the reporting is any good.  So I am not yet the richest man in Calradia.

I also want to attack every castle and town at least once, which dovetails with my eventual goal of conquering the entire realm.  Since I only have 7 towns and 8 castles, I have enough to keep me busy at my pace for some time....

I rarely every just up and quit and start over... I do however set one game aside and start a new one with a different build and do something different for a while but I always come back to the first.

When I do finally just "quit" it is usually when I am at the point where I have taken everything over and there are just a few lords to hunt down to make the last faction go away... Nord or Rhodok armies I may actually keep playing and hunt down... Khergit I always just say "I got your castles" and quit because I have no patience to be running down their tiny little parties that are cruising around at 9+

Any other faction it depends on the mood I am in... if I feel like playing for another hour or two I will, if I am tired I will just end it and start a new game.

Only time i quit and restart is when Sanjar Kahn and his 124451515 troops come to take my castle and wipe the floor with me in the process.

Such is the life in the zo- i mean Calradia.

Well what exactly is wrong with quitting and starting over? Since this a sand box type game and there really is no definitive goal or objective I don't see what the point of your question is? Or perhaps it's just a not so subtle way of saying you're bored and you're hoping someone can tell you what you're missing from the game?

I keep three files runnning at a time and play differently on each one. If I'm bored of being a horse archer raiding caravans I can instead pick up a pavise shield and crossbow and work as part of an army. My favorite file is the revolutionary, where I cheat to set up a character that is at war with all kingdoms and only equips from loot.
