How do you start your own kingdom?

^^ Topic.

I was unsure if you had to be at war with one faction before you can besige a castle, and then go from there?  I'm also assuming you can recruit lords as well.

First things first:  Welcome to PoP!

All of your questions have been exhaustively answered already in the forums.  You shouldn't even have to leave the first page to find your answers.

Good luck!

What he means to say is, simply capture a castle or a town as an unaffiliated character (you must not be a mercenary or a vassal). After you've taken it, speak to the seneschal in the castle room and you'll get an option to declare yourself a sovereign entity.

Well, no, actually I meant what I said. :D

I'm getting ready to create a boilerplate:

and just post it 12 times a day.

It would save time :D

P.S.  (You can get your kingdom as a vassal... just rebel when he gives your castle to someone else!)

Probably time to build a PoP FAQ sticky, with the usual questions and a link to a thread about 'em

Then we can all just post "Read the FAQ!" repeatedly

People who don´t care to check the existing topics on the first two or three pages, realising the entries on page two are just a day old, will not care for a sticky FAQ as well.

And with more people playing PoP 2.0, more and more impatient fellows will turn up playing silly bugger instead of caring to read and look for information.
All we need to do is getting Misguided a Banhammer and an editing chisel and become minor moderator of this board.

Just having the FAQ would be a good idea, then just have the URL to it on your clipboard. Should someone ask a question which pertains to it, just paste the URL and job done.

The FAQ was against SD policy - people should find out by themselves. And there´s the PoP wiki. A splendid place to get answers. Linked. Stickified. There. On the top of it all. Displayed at page 1.

The blood would flow!  FLOW, I TELL YOU!!!

Nah, not really.  Once I get over this head-cold I will probably be back to being all nice and handing out flowers to the new recruits.

But when there are posts on the front page of the forum called "Concerning Lords" and "Qualis Gems", etc., I don't feel really bad about simply pointing folks in the direction of the forums with a pat on the head.

Of course, every time I do, I end up posting 3-4 more times in said thread... kinda like this one!

Aside from the fact that I can't rebel as a vassal when he gives my cities away... Sucks, I wanted free garrisons. :(

Edit- and by that, I mean there is no option... [a.) Continue to be the slave to the man, suck it up and get along. b.)Rebel and kick some ass.]

Ok one of the problems is I dont know what to look for. If i search for capturing castles i get a million hits of useless "mod features" topics.

This is the problem. If it has been discussed before please post a link because I cannot find a solution. Alternatively tell me this simply cant be fixed and I have to waste my time worsening my rep with a faction.

I am an independent, I see a castle, I want it. I click on it.

Two options: leave or hail the guard

I hail

I can now either run around in the courtyard punching invulnerable guards

OR

I can run around in the castle punching invulnerable guards

nobody I talk to has a "Give me your castle or die!" speech option

I'm guessing that before I am "allowed" to attack their castles I have to find a unit of theirs and attack it, which seems somewhat... silly. I have a nice army, elite troops, and yet I am prohibited from doing a pearl harbour and attacking their fortresses before I declare war.

Maybe a permanent "hostile action" option against castles could be implemented?

You don't need to attack a lord.

Extort protection money from one of their caravans.  That will give you a -1 relationship and allow you to attack a castle without wasting time / troops on combat beforehand.

Plus, a couple hundred bucks for the extortion of course.  :D

Or a roving band of farmers, I think.  Details aside, yes, you do in fact have to find a party of some type from that faction and either fight or threaten it first, which is how the game plays in Native too.  The reason for this is that if you were going to treacherously attack your freinds and allies who would allow you into their castle, you'd have to be a utter idiot not to go in the open gate and betray them once inside.  Which would be far too easy a fight, gameplay wise, for the rewards of owning a castle.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

Not sure I understand you.  If you are a vassal, and you take a castle, and said castle is not awarded to you, you can rebel.

It's native code.  Not something we've messed with.  Once you rebel, you will have the opportunity to declare your own sovereignty.  Is there something I am missing?

Actually, taking any hostile action against that faction will result in the castles becoming siegable.  You can sack villages, kill passing caravans, etc.  Any negative faction will allow you to begin sieges.

.... Well hell.  Just realized this has been answered twice already.

I blame the drugs.

Two problems here. First, whaaaaat kind of policy is that? You guys must realize that PoP is a HUGE mod and a lot of people don't want to miss good stuff so they'd rather have the info and the option to choose. It would take ages to figure all of this out by yourself.

Second, the wiki is really, really lacking in info. I know it's been updated now very recently and that's good but say five days ago basically the only interesting info on there was the troop tree which I use regularly.

As the guy said, it's really hard finding info here because it's just full of a bunch of random topics and sometimes the threads themselves aren't even about what the OP asked for.

But what do I know, I just play this mod. :)
