How do you play an army without horses

I was thinking of playing with all Nord troops for my next game but it occurred to me that my army would be so slow on the world map I'd never be able to catch anything. How do Nord players deal with this?

I play with pure Nord army, and I only have that problem when doing city quest (catch about 20 raiders with an army of 80-100)

If you have an NPC with good patfinding you shouldn't have any problem with catching an army about 25% weaker.

The question is: Why do you want to catch anything that is significantly quicker than you?
These armias are usually not worth chasing.

Just use Garrisons to reduce amount of your troops.

And remember that low tier units slow down your overall party speed. A mid/high tier army with a good pathfinder in the group and a bunch of pack horses should give you a quite decent map travel speed, although not comparable to a mixed or all cavalry army. If you ever play a true pure rhodok you'll find yourself in the same spot.

Anyway, a full infantry nord army is a blast to play with and very, very powerful. So, it's worth all the downsides.

And you'll probably be able to survive your own stupid strategic decisions, such as
Deciding that fighting a full sarranid army (65 vs 104) on the desert shouldn't be that difficult:

It was one of my most memorable battles, though. The last five sarranids against me was one of the most tense experiences in this game ever. Truly Sergio Leonesque.
Luckily a couple of them ended up routing (to my surprise). And luckily again I had a good surgeon on my army so I managed to survive the after battle and not be captured by bandits.
High difficulty settings, yadda yadda. And yes, it's the second time I post that sshot. I just love it.

Higher tier Nord troops have a lot of athletics, so it's not so big problem. More problematic would be leveling them up to high tier when You can't chase after easy opponents and get squashed by i.e. fast deserter groups. But it's fun

Huscarls have 7 Athletics, that helps.

When playing a non-cavalry faction, it's highly recommended you invest in Intelligence on your own character and put points in Pathfinding. You get a bonus on party skills invested in your own character. This means that you get an effective level of 14 Pathfinding at 10 Pathfinding, 4 levels more than you could get when you use a NPC for it. Not vital, but it helps.

Huscarls and Veteran archers have athletics 7. Having both of them means being able to fight both infantry and cavalry (archers are your anti-cav weapon).
