i tryed looking in tech suport and even posted comments but i got no results. when i updated my game, i strait away went into mount and blade and when i went to restore my characters game it said in big writing under my characters game IMCOPADABLE FILE VERSION (sorry bout spelling) how do i fix this problem, please explain IN DETAIL step by step how to fix it Please. thank you very much whoever helps me in wateva way

You can't fix it. It's a new version so the older save doesn't work with it. You can import your character, so you can keep your XP and money.

If you're going to play with the new version, you're going to have to create a new character.  Loading saves from previous versions typically does not work, as seen quite clearly in this case.

hmmm, and you do that by.....
(how do i do that)

Open your save in the old version, go to the character screen, click status and press export character. Copy the text file from the old game folder and paste it into the new one. Make a new character with the same name in the new version and press the import character button. You'll have your old stats and gold but nothing else.
If you've already deleted your old version (or upgraded it) you can install it to a different folder.

To expand on MountainBlade's directions:

1. Using the old version with your old save game, go to the "Character", then "Statistics", and press "Export Character".

2. Go to Program Files, or wherever Mount&Blade is stored, and go to "Char Export". Make sure this is in the old version of M&B.

3. Copy the .txt file named after your character to the "Char Export" file in the new version of M&B, and create a character with the same name.

4. Go to "Character", then "Statistics", and press "Import Character". Confirm, and you will have that character back. The only downside is your loss of renown, but it's better than nothing.

Also bear in mind that you lose your party (including companions), all inventory items (including equipped ones), and any fiefs you have (towns, castles, villages). You might want to sell your gear and collect your taxes before you export.

**** i already updated the game b4 i done any of that. damn i guess i just have to export it or wateva right away

while i do this do i needa be in the game and minimize it, or can i export quit game and do the thing?

Correct. Yes, you can quit the game. Just make sure you've exported the stats file before you quit, and you can access the file without the game running.
