how do i gain a rank?

I think i gain rank through gradual posting and being online but i am not sure, can someone please tell me

Rank is determined by time spent online.

Oh, and for futute reference questions such as this go here. Plus this question has been answered hundreds of times so it'd be a good idea to try and use the search bar next time

And if you leave it for 15 mins, you become inactive, therefore not getting any time online.
