House Lynsinova, Family of Kernywik
| Jack Green: A Biography Jack was born to a poor family, in a small hamlet in Calradia. A poor community, subject to raids and attacks from many factions around the region, the region he lived in was a disputed area by all nobles, and Barons, Counts and other families fought for control over the area, the County of Kernywik. His father was a farmer, and his mother was a merchant, selling the crops that his father grew, but they could barely afford to live. Their yields were small and the prices they fetched were poor. They lived off their crops, and sometimes they did not grow. On many occasions, they starved for days on end. When the news that Jack's mother, Gwyndilli, was pregnant, his father, Pytrik, knew that they would starve more and more, as they would not be able to support him. His mother died during childbirth, from illness, his father was stricken with grief, and began to drink heavily with what little money he could spend on alcohol. He became more and more angry, and subjected his son to abuse on many occasions, each time filled with more rage. By the age of 3, Jack had suffered many wounds, such as broken bones from his father's drunken wrath, and just after his 4th birthday, Jack's father died in a drunken fight. Jack became an orphan. He was sent to a farm to live, with a richer family, and lived out his childhood working on the farm. At the age of 16, Jack moved to the nearest city, Lynsinova, where he joined the watch. He worked hard to drag himself up the ranks, and eventually gained the rank of Sergeant, which was when he began to make a name for himself. He worked with distinction to achieve higher and higher ranks, and really became established amongst the nobles of the County of Kernywik, and in their favour he managed to achieve the rank of Captain of the Guard, and upon his promotion was transferred to his current posting. He set up his own house, and was admitted to the Council of High Nobles, and Jack Green soon became known as the High Noble Jack Green of Lynsinova (Kernywik) - Sheriff of the Town Guard (as he adopted Lynsinova as his new last name and for his family house). |
| The Tale: Usurpers of the Crown Jack stood on the high walls, looking down into the town, upon the people - the commoners of these lands. He stared in pity as they performed menial tasks, things Jack never had to do as a Guardsman, and although he did do some downright dirty and disgusting jobs, he was glad he'd never had to work so hard to get where he was, it all just came natural to him. The cold wind bit at his face as he stood as still as stone, not even high gales could move him and his steely stare. His grey eyes scanned all that he could see, and to his surprise town was quiet. Ruffians weren't present and the people seemed content in their jobs, hurriedly working like bees making honey, or like any other analogy that Jack could think of. He was not seen often in the town, but when there his presence was made known. It caused somewhat of a disturbance among the Town Guard and the people too, sometimes his actions were very controversial, though not that he cared - for he did what was right for the people, not what was morally right. If it meant killing a man and making him feel cold steel, then so be it! But now the cold was getting to him, and he made his way indoors for some breakfast, a rather healthy one of boars meat and wine. He sat content in his own little world, feasting on something that would also be his lunch and dinner, but he didn't mind for he could remember a time when he had no food. He ate what he could and when. A sudden loud knock awoken him from his daydream, and a man rushed into the room carrying a note. He uttered just four words before handing over the note: "Calradia is at war." As quickly as he entered, he left again. It must have been fairly early in the day when Jack heard the news: Calradia was at war. He was drinking wine when he was told and spit it everywhere in surprise, nearly choking. He knew that the time had come to pledge his allegiance; but to whom would he pledge? The invading king, or the High Council of Nobles? He was loyal to both parties, incredibly so. The king had made him who he was and had given him this lavish lifestyle, so of course the choice seemed obvious, but then the High Nobles Council had given him a seat, and he could not betray them... no of course he couldn't. What, therefore, could he do? He pondered for quite a while, before finally making his mind up. It was time for a new king. |
