Need More Info Hours into a game and now it just freezes

Help!

I'm loading my latest save and I can go about 10 seconds moving around the map when everything just freezes. I have to manually end the game session and no crash report is produced. It's seems to happen after my daily gold change but I can't see anything political that might cause it.

The issue started when I installed the mods
- cheap barter
- diplomacy fixes

and changed the config.xml for mod
- gay marriage

Things I've tried...
- uninstalling the mods and reverting any changes... still freezes
- reverting to an older save... still freezes
- re-installing the game... still freezes

Any ideas? I've sunk hours into this game and I'd rather not start over.

I also tried to start a new game with the same mods and everything seems to work fine so it's just saved games that are not working.
