Anyone know if hotkeys for weapons are in the works?  I know it's been suggested before but figured we'd have them by now if we're ever going to get them.  But that may just be the difference in what I consider a 'priority'.

Should ultimately be assignable of course but I was thinking 1 - 4 for weapons, and 5 for shield toggle.  Would be nice not to have to flip through entire inventory to get out that special weapon I'm looking for.

Please add a poll.

This has been on my mind since I first started playing M&B in 2005, and I'm sure a lot of people want hotkeys, too.  It's just one of those standard features PC gamers expect.

I think it'd be simple and elegant if just 1-4 corresponded to the equipment slot.  If your shield is on slot 4, hit 4 once to bring it up, hit 4 again to put it back.  Sheathing/drawing weapons would work the same way.

Since the MP and SP part share the same key settings I wouldn´t want to have the number keys assigned to weapon slots.

What is more immediate and important than switching to the correct equipment when you need it?  Especially when it comes to multiplayer which can come down to split-second timing?

Bots? They could put those functions on the F-keys, on the numerical keypad, on some letters, or better yet make it rebindable.

I don´t have any problems switching to the right weapon, seeing that you only carry 3 different weapons (a fourth would be overkill and useless) you only have to scroll the mousewheel once or twice.

If you make a poll then please ask how many different weapons most players wear.

Yes but if you have your sword out and you want to switch to your javelins, but your spear is in the way, that second scroll leaves you open for an additional attack as you scroll past your spear.

And I can't add a poll with the weapon options and a yes/no vote without allowing multiple options, and then that kind of defeats the purpose of yes/no.

And a fourth weapon isn't too odd.  You could have a short sword for speed, a two hander for breaking down shields/breaking through them, a spear for cavalry, and throwing weapons for cavalry/archers.  Though it's smarter to bring a shield (for archers) IMO, but there is a valid reason for having 4 weapons.

You get used to it for sure, but that doesn't make it intuitive or well-designed.

For every key we have (switch shields, sheathe, switch weapon) we could have easily used basic PC game hotkeys instead, and replaced all the needless button presses and equipment cycling.

Want to drop a specific shield? Hit C for weapon sheathe, Q, Q, Q to cycle,  Z (sorry don't know what the defaults are).  With hotkeys, you'd just hit the number of the slot you want to draw/sheath (eliminating the need for a sheath key) and drop weapon.

If they do this i would like to have different pre-keysets. One bot hotkeyset (like it is now) and a weapon hotkey-set. I imagine it very difficult to use other keys or only fkeys for bot grouping and commands. But those who play only or near only mulitplayer without bots can use the other keyset.

exception: tab.

I would like this, though I'm not sure what to do with the bot-ordering system if we use 1-4.

I always feel silly if I've been playing TF2 or [anything else with hotkeys] and then I get into MnB and the first thing I do is scream out "Archers, hear me! Infantry, hear me!"

Edit: What they could do, I guess, is use 1-4 for weapons/shield selection, and 5-8 for bot selection. I think [whatshisname]'s Form Ranks kit uses 5-8 for his "battle command" system, and it seems to work out pretty well.

It's a no-brainer. I have no idea why it hasn't been there since the beginning.

In regards to how bot command should be handled: there should be a radial pop-up menu. Might even be possible already with the module presentation system.
