Horses with character...

One of the things I loved from the first moment of M&B was the horse riding. Getting the better horse, getting more speed, more manoeuvrability. The spirited Courser was great... fast, responsive, agile…

I'd like another level, one above Spirited. I'd like "Character horse". This is the rarest of beasts. It has a name, it bites your enemy... rears against them. Steers you out of trouble. Decides to charge at a certain foe for you. That swings left for your right sided attack, then left for your backhand.

Bring on the named, character horse! What do you think?

That sounds like basically replacing your own horse controls with AI. I don't think that would work as well.

An idea i've been playing around with in my head is to have your horse grow 'acustomed' to you. Almost as if it levels up or something. The horses don't come with 'spirited' or 'stubborn', instead when you first get a new horse, you have to break it in, and eventually it will be more responsive to your directions, and move with more agility and confidence into dangerous situations which it would normally shy from.

I don't want my horse controlling where I go. But I WOULD like some other horse features implemented, such as:

Horse Naming. Right clicking a horse in your inventory pops up a menu that allows you to name it and do the other things listed here.

Horse Breeding. Right clicking would bring up the menu, you click "Breed" and then right click the horse you wish to breed it with. Wait some ## of days, and then you get another horse. It's stats would be a combination of both parents. Say you crossed a courser with a charger. You would get good charge and speed, but would sacrifice some maneuverability or something. The outcomes would be random, and the breeded horses would not sell for a lot, seeing as how they are "mixed breeds" and not purebreds .

Horse Racing. I don't know if this is historicaly correct, but if you were in town, you might be able to right click the horse you want to race with and select "Enter Race." You would be teleported, along with your horse, to the starting line. You would simply race to the finish. Winning would get you denars, while losing would, of course, cost you denars. After a period of time, your horse could level up, gaining speed, maneuverability, or charge skill levels, making them faster or more powerful. You could also use this to test out that new spirited course you just bought at the local merchant

Just my thoughts on horses.

Yea i was thinking of that as i was reading, maybe buy a crappy lame steppe horse that leaves the chrger in the dust...

Also once your horse is crippled why is it always crippled i think horses whould be able to heal i mean ill get shot in the eye with 8 crossbows but ill always heal right up

anyways i was also thinking you should be able to buy armour for your horse why not you and your hose could be wearing matching black armour... how cute would that be

lol rando.

I can imagine a souped-up courser traveling at 15 speed, with a biker on him, and saddle bags on either side of the horse, with a little american flag on one of them. That would be sweet  Never go out on your bike without the best protective gear. Basicaly, don't go cruisin without your leathers!

BTW, find a safe spot, and hold ctrl+space for a while. It will progress the game time really fast and, after a certain number of days, your crippled horse will become normal again. Note, i said normal. Meaning a spirited charger that was wounded wont become spirited again, just a charger. They make nice backup horses in case you lose a spirited courser/hunter.

If you want a black horse/black armor, dl the huge mod and buy the black charger thing.

what about chariots? you could get scythed wheels for choping enemies in half etc. etc.

and you could slice the leading horsemans head off with a 20-foot bardiche

im talking races where ur fighting also, but not on chariots. You could either defeat all of your opponets or get to the finish line first.

I think it could be fun

Or jousting, the real way.

1 on 1, horses, a long, narrow strip with a fence in the middle. Both horses charging at each other... would be fun  You could access it by talking to the tournament master and saying "I want to joust" or somethin

I'd just thought about racing as a sort of new questy-thingy and was gonna post a topic about it, but after a quick search I find this post, Hell's bells! Though I think it would be cool, good thinking Orion. Also maybe races from town to town, with encounters actually taking up time in the same way traveling on the map does, so while attacking other riders would certainly clear the way for a win, others could pass you by in the midst of your fighting, and raiders and/or gamblers could ambush you and the other riders in hopes of allowing a certain rider to win. These attack prompting most riders to arrange parties for their defense and to quickly settle the fights, which, while definately accomplishing that objective, would make your ride much slower (as most of us have noticed)... but those are my thoughts.
