Horses are good in-game ... bad in RL

Hello all!

To all of those that don't know me, you'll learn to hate me soon enough.

To all of those that do, nice to see you again.

Rather than deal with a bunch of seperate PMs and possible thread hijacking (  ) ... I figured I would post a small bit here and make things easy for everyone (mostly me).

Clubs are doing fine, managers suck but at least all the 'other' problems aren't going on.  Business is poor (but tax season is arriving) so thats not a bad thing.

Why does the topic mention horses?  I became friends with a guy that is an owner/trainer of race horses (mostly thoroughbreds).  After a lot of thought, we thought to 'branch out' and make an investment.  Lets just say that a bad investment is a wonderful way of excusing stupidity and leave it at that.

I have been lurking every now and again ... yet I haven't been able to keep up with the tremendous amount of threads/posts.

I'll stick around as long as Armagan needs me or until something urgent steals me away in RL.

EDIT: The subject was "Horse are good in-game ... bad in RL"  Nice grammer.

Hi Narcissus, I'm glad that you were able to keep things going. I remember how upset you were about that guy stealing from you, I've been doing a lot better over the past year and it is nice to see posts from you again. Why would anyone hate you? You are so kind and sensitive. I'm just kidding around man.

Heh. Too bad about the investment, but glad to hear things are OK.

Nice to have you back.

What is this RL? How do I get one?

RL is a dangerous symptom of a deadly disease called NAIN (Not An Internet Nerd) that currently plagues the vast majority of the billions of people on the Earth.  Thankfully, a new drug is being prescribed that works wonders.  If you start feeling that you might be suffering from RL symptoms, take a double dose of 'Teh Internets' immediately!

EDIT: Thanks all

Horses aren't bad, but thoroughbreds are horribly tempermental.

Get yourself a nice welsh highland pony or something that'll be happy to stand around in all weather.

Yeah. The problems come when you actually want them to move though

I'm just wondering when Volkier is going to notice this ...

Are there many tracks in the U.S. that run Welsh Highland Ponies?

Seriously, I don't know.  Just from the knowledge I have shown here ... you wouldn't think someone would take advantage?

How the heck does one survive out there?

Outside of teh Internets?

I've heard it involves mystical creatures called: Work, Real Friends, and Family ... My mythology isn't up to par so I may have misspelled the names, but fairly sure it is something like that.

Volkier only comes here once a day ::razz:

And welcome back Narc - long time no see. We missed you.... no really I'm serious here ::razz:

As for the investment part - it all depends on what you are investing in.. Ownership of the horse, or your friend's business in itself. Investing in the ownership of the horse itself is nice and all, but its pretty much like any gamble - since you would preferably need to know the horse / trainer (and I mean not personally as in being friends with them, but rather how they are in their job). Also - as people, race-horse trainers/owners are likely to make friends with you for the whole purpose of selling you a share in their horse (its sort of a marketing strategy) - though its not completely fake as they would maintain the relationship after that with you.

Thoroughbreds - I wouldn't really consider too tempremental either.. (I have theories relating as to how and where they are trained at early stages of their lives having the most effect on their temperament later. Being around race-horses and such an environment simply spikes their natural instinct to race.) By tempremental I believe Pharaoh meant that they wouldn't stand still if you are on top, and another horse races past ::X which is true in most cases with thoroughbreds of the track - but that can be re-trained if someone puts enough work and patience into it. Only thing is that its a little harder to do that with a thoroughbred who doesn't know anything other than running and being bashed around with the whip to get going faster compared to a mount bred for pleasure riding of somebody's 10 year old daughter somewhere ::razz:

I could probably be of more help if you gimme a few more details - but expect me to cuss at the racing industry - since I'm not too great a fan of it after knowing a good number of trainers and due to common (non common-sense) practices ::\ Not exceptionally familiar with US racing industry either - but it may be a lil easier for me to dig up some info if you need ::razz:

EDIT: Narc... you where never feared... You where always considered the cute lil' fluffy whuffy puppy with a waggy tail sprinting on the beach... Probably the same beach where LL was standing in his leopard thongs too ::razz:

EDIT 2: due to the next post:
You where always considered a rabid hybrid giant wolf, lurking in the shadows of the thristle bushes near a beach - where your prey came in a form of innocent bystanders, surfers and tourists wearing nothing but thongs. Your eternally tormenting devours where feared, temples erected hailing your name and brining virgin sacrifices so as to satisfy your immortal hunger.

Oh yeah narc feel free to edit btw. I'm friggin tired - brain running at approximately 20% of nominal capacity (nominal capacity of a human brain being approximately 6%)

Was that really necessary?

Anyways ... thanks for the welcome back part, at least.  :???:

Just because Narcisuss didn't do a lot of banning doesn't mean that he deserves no respect. I never thought he was a cute little puppy he is a man with a wife and a successful business so stop it. This is where I start singing "Blue Hawai" so watch out weaklings.

I occasionally ride a horse that's about 2/8 thoroughbred (also has about 1/16 shire, heh), she's a firecracker. She sees a fence and BAM, try holding her back!

But yeah, by 'tempermental' that's generally what I meant. Because thoroughbreds are hot-blooded (like arabs, and other similar horses) they're designed to be fast, and the faster they get, the more they want to run.  Like any horse they can have their oddities, but unless you REALLY know about horses and can spot a perfect conformation in a herd of a thousand, it's pretty chancy investing in one.
