I know it was proposed a plenty of times, but i rephraze it so that it sounds like something new
.
Well, i thought of giving a "Watt"/"Horsepowers=750Watt" stat to horses (and perhaps to humans). It would tell with what speed how much weight for what distance the horse could bring before exhausting. Once it exhausts, the player should rest a bit, or saddle another horse in his inventory. That is the way mongols did it. The speed of the horse should be more precisely adjustable on worldmap, in battles it is done already to some degree. Maximal speed of a horse shouldn't be dependant on it's power. For humans there could also be some "endurance" skill.
I also thought of including a weight stat to every inventory item. So that the player can bear a certain amount of heavy armor/weapons with certain strengh. This would also make my first idea more possible. It also thought of introducing horse armor, but i guess this was proposed too many times already. As well as the other two things- oh well.
