Horse riding speed

I notice when im traveling on the map I can go 10 speed at lvl 1. Then I slow down to 5.6 when i have 29 men. Juding by this, I understand that with the more the troops, the slower I become. How do I speed my traveling up? Do I need all of my men trained to being horse riders?

Cavalry troops will help increase your map speed. An army of footmen is much slower than an army of horsemen.

Pathfinding ability helps too, Black knights, Black Khergits as prisoners and a light inventory speed up your party.
