Ok, this is an edit I did of all the horses stats and tested today. Seems to work just great at the advanced stage of game army vs. army I was testing on.
The concept is this, instead of the inversely proportioned horses of native (meaning low end 'junk' horses can have very high speed or manuever) the horses are straight up better by price range and riding skill range now. The health is also lowered to guarantee the junk horses can be killed and you don't have to chase them an hour. This should be better to play with cavalry players, infantry players, and ground archery players. It may be different to play as mounted archers, specifically if you use Khergit troops they may suck with these settings. And if you play as a mounted archer yourself, you may need to buy a more expensive horse. I don't know but you can give it a try if you want an adventure there, otherwise it should just make battles a bit more sensible and less of a Kentucky derby for everyone else.
here's what i changed:
sumpter: set hp to 50 ('bout half normal), left 33/34 man/speed unchanged as it makes sense
saddle: hp 45, man: 33 speed: 37 man/speed - works with the other adjustments i made
steppe: hp 55, man: 36 speed: 38
courser: hp 50, man: 35 speed: 42
hunter: hp 70, man: 36 speed: 40
warhorse: hp 80, man: 34 speed: 40 raised price as it's more powerful, raised charge a bit, raised armor a bit
charger: hp 70, man: 38 speed: 44 raised price, raised charge a bit
they can be modified by the usual modifiers in game of course, heavy/spirited/champion
What this basically means is there's 3 tier of horse now that only get better -
JUNK: sumpter, saddle you can easily destroy (they're still agile enough to dodge you sometimes though, and they don't die in one hit usually but a couple of strong ones can nail them)
MID-CLASS steppe, courser, hunter, not great horses so much but they could compete against their own class or lower just fine, and probably make do against better troops often enough
HIGHEST CLASS: warhorse and charger, buffed to the most desirable levels, they aren't necessarily killdozers but they feel far more like what rich well-trained calvalry would perform against the rabble. and hey now you actually have a reason to put yours and your heroes riding to 4 and to keep getting better horses
so give it a try if you are interested
