But It's What The Cool Kids Do!

Yeah it would slow down my wpm.

As for maille being used in the 13th century, there IS evidence of it according to Arms and Armor of the Medieval Knight -- HOWEVER maille isn't exactly a light defense, as it has redundancies, and hangs, so it was fairly rare.  The shaffron was in use, too.

No, it's just weird, not to mention horribly incorrect. You see, when you type in that manner your sentences do not flow, the words themselves appear to be singular rather than a part of the whole. Correct use of upper and lower case is essential for clear and understandable communication. What the hell do they teach in schools these days?

But given the horrific casualties that horses suffered when they were deliberately targeted--e.g. by Turks and English bowmen-- was this seen as being worth the tradeoff? Furthermore, what about the cloth covering (the name of which I can't remember at the moment)? Did that hide a measure of protection, or was its function purely visual?

As far as I know (which is not very far) cloth barding was mainly for identification, since it was essentially just another place to whack some heraldry. I suppose it could be padded, unlikely I guess, but I doubt it hid any other kind of protection.
