Horse idle animations?

One thing that really stands out when you dismount is that the horses just sit completely still. I think they would be much more realistic if they moved a little (not by running around, just a breathing animation) and had a few idle animations like eating grass.

yeah that would be great! I also think the horses that disappear all the time should not when they're not dead.

That's not a bad idea at all. The horse needs alot more attention. Idle animations would be very good. Also noticed that the whole "jumping" on horseback animation doesn't feel right - it's a bit too smooth, feels more like a hovercraft than a horse. There should really be a stomach sinking feeling as the beast heaves up and a big smash as it comes down - much more physical and visceral.

Ya...by the way, why DO horses disappear after a while anyway? What if one wants to mount a horse at any given time?

Horses should remain on the field, no matter what...

Second.
Unless there is some technical problem with it, all horses should remain where the are.
The fadeing out part just breaks immersion.

I think the amount of damage the horse itself has taken effects how long the horse stays on the battlefield.

Once some vaegir deserter shot my caravan guard dead with one shot with his crossbow. His horse didn't take any damage at all, and stayed there for the rest of the fight. It didn't dissapear or anything.

Actually, a horse just standing there nonchalantly while a battle rages around it isn't very realistic at all. Having horses bolt if they get attacked or enemies come nearby would be quite cool, but it would be a fair bit of extra AI to add in.

I think horses should get their own AI. With that, they would run out of battle ("fade away"), get startled if they were hit, run away from fire (not implementedfor battles, but if/when...), walk from steep slope to level ground etc.

Warhorses shoudn't be mountable after the original rider falls or dismounts. they bite you know. (they did, trained them to do it realy  )

Horses make good shields. I was fighting some bandits once, and i got on a saddle horse that a dead bandit had courteously given me. i charged down some more bandits until i saw some archers in the distance taking potshots at me. I got off the saddle horse, stood behind it and pegged them with my crossbow. i got them, but the horse was looking a bit like a pincushion. It was still alive though.

Well, it wasn't his horse.

I don't really mind that horses don't move when idle but, the disappearing makes me angry.

Turning on the spot looks wrong, as if the horse was standing on a turntable. Some animation here would look good.

Armagan has said that horses eat a lot of memory, and that's why they're cleared out (disappear).
Yeah, I had assumed that was the reason they don't stick around most times.

As computing power increases, I'm sure will get even more realism.

I was just going to post this. I agree completely and do wish this was implemented .

Unfortunately horses already use a lot of memory (as stated in previous posts) and this would propably increase it furthermore .

I'll be adding horse idle animations as soon as I can get to it.

About the horses disappearing: It's mainly because horses cause a significant drop to framerate. I should really make them run to the edge of the map and disappear there but I'm too lazy for that. =P

Couldn't there be an option to let them stay there? This would cause a drop in the max number of men who could be on the field at once, of course, but some people might prefer that anyway.

And while we're at it, it would be nice if we could have the max battle size increased for those of us with uber computers . . .
