Horse Archers

How effective do you find horse archers with this mod? In the basic game they were never very good, the AI basically couldn't hit anything. But archers in general seem much more effective with the mod. If horse archers are good what stops them from just sitting out of range and peppering all the other troops with arrows?

He'd meant to post in the Floris sub-board...there horse archers have slightly stronger skills/proficiencies, and are forced to use their bows until out of ammo or dismounted (by way of PBOD) so tend to be more effective than their Native counterparts.

Yep, included in PBOD, but also available in my "Module System Code" sig link. Fairly simple thing to check what weapon a mounted agent (who is guaranteed a mount and ranged weaponry) is using and re-set it to their ranged weapon so long as they have ammo. Forces them to use the ranged AI and keeps them away from suicide charges (a bit).

Well with this item mod http://www.brothersoft.com/games/mount-blade-warband-mod-osp-spak_items.html horse archers can actually work in an otherwise native game.
Be carefull though, the pack adds a bunch of over powered items to the shops(and only the shops), at least the version i use. Dunno if it has been balanced since.

The gist of it is that i contains a very neat imperial bow and the matching arrows which do a very high amount of damage for a large price of denars. I use these on my high level guys(lvl 20 and above) and they can actually kill guys in 1-3 shots, depending on the target. A bit cheap, but this way i can use horse archers without cringing about how worthles they are. The only thing that remains is that you dont want to give em any kind of melee weapon.
Ive seen them favour a rusty dagger over the lovely bow.

actually the perfect weapon for horse archers is either a light lance or 2h sabre.
