Horse archers might be aiming too high -

I've been tinkering with horse archers lately trying to get them to be more effective, but there seems to be something fundamentally flawed in their coding... like they only aim for the head or perhaps don't take into account their higher position while mounted.  I wanted to see if anyone else observed the same thing, and if anyone would consider running an experiment to see if stationary mounted archers missed more than stationary ground-based archers (with the same proficiencies/ skills).

If you're interested in keeping your horse archers skirmishers instead of using their melee weapons, however, I've found that you can force the A.I. to skirmish directly for an entire match by simply removing all melee weapons from their inventory.  Still, even with 10 horse archery, 5 power draw, 190 proficiency, their accuracy against a single target seems to be something between 5-10%.

On a final note, if someone would help me out and do some kind of reproducible accuracy test, I would do a write up on the bug tracker to try to get the A.I.'s use of horse archery improved.

Thanks

If you gave your companions only 5 Power Draw and a bow that requires 5 PD to use this might be the source of your low accuracy. Instead give them bows that have low PD requirements and that will increase their accuracy. There is a post somewhere about it all, breaking it down.

Not anymore. In the latest patch, higher-PD weapons are actually more accurate. Lower-PD weapons are less accurate.

All archers (and javelin throwers as well probably) in later patches aim for head by default. Why it was done I do not know but reason might be sieges.

I have experienced this... first hand. Every ranged weapon directed to my player is aimed at the head.

build an army of archers and throwers and crossbows. Let them hold position and spread out and fire at will. Get to a nice spot where you can see the action. Despite any aiming inaccuracies, they all aim for the head. I've been watching it for about a month now, it's pretty funny.
