Horse Archer

Squire
After hearing so much about how horse archers just rack up the kills I wanted to try to be one so I was wondering if there was a guide someplace that tells you what skills you need and how to use one because try as I might I cannot figure out how to use the horse archer class.

The problem is that you need a lot of skills to make it work: riding, horse archery, power draw at least so it's difficult to start out. I have found the best way is to start as a foot archer to get power draw up to 6 with a good archery proficiency and then work on Agility to get at least 4 points in riding, horse archery and weapon master. At that point, you convert to a full time HA at about level 15. Meanwhile, you will be racking up kills as an archer anyway.

Thanks but still looking for more answers if possible as I enjoy the opinions of many. Also what equipment should I use as a Horse Archer?

As far as armor is concerned, you can choose to either go for appearance or the best armor bonuses you can find. Because you will be on a horse, there's no need to worry about weight so you won't have to sacrifice protection for movement speed. Get about 4 or 5 points in HA and you should be set for that, proficiency will take care of the rest. Use the best bow you can get and it's normally recommended to carry 2 quivers of arrows. In the case of Native, try to go for 2 large quivers of Khergit arrows as they each carry 2 more arrows than bodkin giving you 4 more arrows total. In the last slot put a 2-handed weapon. Your choice of horse can be flexible, you can either go for a heavily armored horse or a hunter/courser, but because you'll be serving as a distraction for your enemies (or at least I do most of the time, have your enemies chase you around while your archers hit them from behind) I suggest (as a long term goal) get your riding up high enough that you can use a charger without worrying about being too slow.

This thread should help you get started a bit: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,178736.msg4293132.html#msg4293132

Thanks now just to build my character from the beginning and kill my enemies by the hundreds! So a good setup would be Masterwork > Warbow  Masterwork > Two Handed Sabre, and the highest protecting armor I can find with the highest level charger I can find, With 10 PD, 5 HA, 5+ R and assorted other skills?

Pretty much.

Start as a Hunter-Steppe Child-Poacher-Revenge.  Get your STR to 12 and 4 in PD.  Immediately upgrade your initial bow to whatever you can find/afford, anything is better than your initial hunting bow.  That way you're already dishing a decent amount of damage at low levels.  No need to pump HA as long as you're fighting looters, initially you can slow down or even stop to deal with these guys.

I stop at 12 AGI and 4 in the related skills, except shield, no need to put points there.  It's enough to get a fully closed reticule riding at full speed on a Hunter.  I use a Hunter until I can get my hands on a charger.  The extra armor and hp is much more important than the few points in speed in my opinion.  I don't go for the courser becasue riding too fast makes shots more difficult.

I capped Power Strike and Iron Flesh at 5, actually I upped these fairly slowly.  It's enough to one shot pretty much anybody, and it gives 75 hp.

Bows - I go for the War Bow as soon as I can find/afford one, increase my PD to 8, then wait until I find a masterwork warbow, at which point I crank up the PD to 10.  Remember that there's no point in having a PD more than 4 points higher than the PD requirement of your bow.

Armour - whatever you like since you're on a horse most of the time so you're not slowed down by weight, and your shooting speed is independent of your encumbrance.  I go for the Coat of Plates because the Plate Armour looks so ugly.  I avoid the Great Helm because I play in 3rd person so the wings block too much of the view when zooming.

Melee weapon - I stick with 1h and shield until I increase my archery proficiency to about 125-150 or I get a really good armor.  Before that I usually don't deal enough damage and I feel safer behind a shield.  But I'm really bad in melee, so you could go right away for a 2h.  I put points in 2h when I level up so when I do make the switch I'm already decent.  I use a heavy morningstar which becomes avaiable fast since I raise STR before anything else.  Being a 1h/2h weapon I don't need to shop again once I switch to 2h.

When starting should I use a party or run solo?
I say start solo and try to avoid sea raiders at all costs. Stick to fighting looters as much as possible, that way you will gain more renown because of the party size differences. Just attack a party of looters then perch yourself some distance away from them and kill them as your accuracy will suck on a moving horse in the beginning.

Small parties of sea raiders are OK, in fact I look for them because of the good loot. The trick is to circle at a distance until they run out of ranged ammo. Do not even think of attacking them until then. Then you can kite them for pretty easy kills.

Horse archer works really well! Just wondering if there are any tips besides practice to getting more accurate?
