does honor rating do anything?

when i get the option of capturing a lord i notice i gain honor if i choose to let them go, what does honor do? would it be better to capture all the enemy lords or let them all go?

Depends if you want money. Capturing lords is good for easy money. I think that honor rating affects whether you get a castle that you requested or not, it may also affect the way lords deal with you.

I dont care that much about money but i do like to keep enemy lords in my dungeon for roleplay reasons

i dont know what honor does though, maybe i would be better off to not capture lords and build up a high honor.

When you have high honor, honorable lords will like you more and dishonorable lords will like you less.
In my experience capturing lords is not a good idea. It's easy money, but it makes the lords dislike you. And when you defeat their faction and the lords disperse to the other factions including yours, you'll end up with a bunch of lords who hate you.

Well capturing murderes and not accpeting the money gives you honor, killing lords to defend women in need from... gossip  (Well maybe not killing, but still) edit oh and letting Lords you beat in battle go. Better to capture them tho and stuff em in a castle for tasks/missions or money.

I dont know if there is any other way to gain honor.

Oh on the contrary MrCrotch

Honor > Money

Being honorable improves your relation with some lords, I believe it is better to have the lords like you (Enemy and Ally) because you can then bend the Ally lords to your will, and enemy parties lead by lords who like you are less likely to attack in my experience..but perhaps I'm just lucky.

well from my experience honor helps by assuring your marshal position till a point( when i say till a point is sometimes the king has better relations with the lords so i would lose my marshal position), at the moment my character has 59 honor (i got this by releasing every single lord that i defeated that gave me a chance to capture) as for the lords not likely to attack you i haven't found that true as the Nords still attack me without remorse for taking their entire homeland.  What i see as advantage is as stated earlier more honor more lords like u more time to build up your forces. Disadvantage as stated earlier less income.

hope that explained a little or helped a bit

So officially what does honor  effect in the game????!! Apart from the experiences.

I find this great game a little bit user-unfriendly about game rule information. Lots of things are not clear, like mystery.

You also gain honor when you don't accept the stuff the villagers offer you after you defeat their bandits.

Day 255. I am a Swadian lord. I own 2 castles and 3 villages. Renown 1450. Honour rating -8. Why? I keep 12 lords and 1 king in my dungeon in my castle. Each time I refuse to accept ransom it falls by 1. But I will slay every MF enemy of the kingdom of Swadia! No honour is greater than that!

I think it's safe to capture a king and then let him go with first offer, as king won't be joinin your faction anyway after total defeat.

Have you bought them a gimp costume from the armourer as well?

Yeah you can still capture Lords and not loose honour, and by ransoming them you can make a pretty penny.  I have something like 30 to 40,000 denars.  So it's quite a lucrative business, for me it's completely replaced selling loot

I think I have about 50 something honour, mainly from refusing rewards from quests, ones from villages mainly

Is this true?

That's a good point.  It could work against you in a Marshall vote for example

Honor Rating mostly affects how lords feel about you.  If a lord is honorable, regardless of faction, he will automatically like you if your honor is high.  The reverse is also true, dishorable lords automatically dislike you if you are honorable.  I have had several instances where my high honor had me starting at +10 relations with lords I had never met prior.

Also just to let you know the easiest way to LOSE honor is to complete the 'Frame and enemy lord for treason' mission.  While most acts affect honor by 1-2 points this mission will cost you a whopping 10 honor!!!

For me,
since i do end up fighting lords several times.  I release them the first few times that we meet.  And if I am working on defeating a certain faction, then I keep those lords, so ill usually have a net positive gain in honor.

But like others said, don't accept money from those defenseless villagers, poor them.

Yes but if you actually want to win a war or help your faction fight back from desperate circumstances, locking up lords and keeping them locked up is a good way to help ..

You can RP it.

I usually keep my 'enemies' locked up for as long as I can in the castle dungeons. Every now and then I let one out if I get an offer of around 12k or money is tight ..

Letting some go is worse than keeping them. Can't remember who, but I let a Rhodok Lord go and my relationship increased to 5 for him. The next time I fought him it dropped to -10 and the dialogue was in reference to me letting him go last time we fought. So not capturing gains 5, but at the risk of loosing 15 the next time you meet in battle.
