This was rather a fun little display I saw done by a re-enactment group which I thought might appeal to you guys..

Today I shall be BLADE! and erm... Achilles..

First off, the Achilles stab thing..

Is there noone else!?

And why it wouldn't work in real life..

Next our hero is armed with just a sword and does... THE MIGHTY LUNGE!

And why it wouldn't work in real life..

Next... the 360 spin

And why it wouldn't work..

And finally the "Recover and stab your enemy while he makes his speech!"

and why this definitely can't work..

He then went on to do the traditional "1 hero slaughters many trained soldiers" which was pretty funny too, with him cartwheeling and biting the neck of the last one.. a very good laugh, and the crowd thought it was great and hopefully carried home a little of the message of the group which was to think "STUPID STUPID STUPID" when watching hollywood films

I keep seeing their pictures but am totally alien to these realistic enactments with historic equipment. Is that kind of a hobby or do you guys have such festivals?

It's kind of both, though I'm talking from what I've heard and seen. There are reenactment groups that sometimes get together in large groups and beat the crap out of each other in a rather organized manner. The most famous mass-reenactment is arguably the reenactment of the battle of Hastings which takes place in Britain. I believe as much as 7 000 reenacters get together for that event, both archers, footmen and horsemen. There are also swathes of Living History adepts which just sit around in period tents doing what people of those times would have done. Camp followers, basically.

But of course, I could be wrong so anyone with some experience in the area can correct me.

Both. It is a hobby, and there are several events and annual festivals. Here in north Europe you can find one Medieval event almost every week. The best festivals (Medieval Fairs) are held in old castle-towns, and they draw large crowds.

For example, here is some pictures from Hämeenlinna and Turku fairs:
