Hold Position Units are... doing colum formation?

I only had this problem before when playing Warband, when my archers would do this in sieges, but in this game, they do it almost EVERY FRIGGIN TIME. When I played Warband, I used to be able to hold F1, and have them form a line and try to make it as parallel as possible to the enemy. For some reason in this game, they do the opposite.

Is there something I'm missing here? Picture included.

The enemies are right in front of them, (not shown in picture) but this drastically reduces the effectiveness of my marksmen...

Hold position (sometimes) takes the rotation from the player when giving the order. Be sure to be facing the direction you want your troops to be facing when you give the order. It tends to improve results a good deal.

Yup, and never did I have that issue in WB.
Then you've gotten lucky, or have been careful with your orders. I'd bet decent sums of money that the functionality of these orders hasn't changed from Warband to WFaS, so you'd see the same patterns in each.

I've had lines not line up perfectly but never in my life have I seen a column in WB. Nor did I see one in M&B. Something has changed, definitely getting more cases of **** not lining up properly in FaS.

I've never had a column in warband.  They always magically know where the enemy is and line up properly.  I rarely use the delete key minimap (it seems kind of cheaty to me), and I always know which direction the enemy is by the way my soldiers are facing.  I agree that something has changed.

In WB they seem to face the center of the enemy formation properly, as long as the enemy stays in formation that is.
Only problem I had is when I go and flank the enemy with one group while leaving another in the back, then both my groups want to remain parallel to each other so the flanking group is more in a column relative to the flanked enemy.

But in FS I also get lots of slants or columns.

I just played a couple rounds of the Captain Team DM online, but my NPCs didn't seem to have a problem lining up where I was facing.... I tried this in SP but nope... still standing in front of it each...
What gives...

I may have found a solution to this...

When I first started playing I really messed up with regard to companions so I decided to start over, but I exported my character so I wouldn't have to level or grind up my money again. This is when I started getting this column or angled line when I told my troops to "Hold This Position". After searching around and not finding a solution and trying a few other things I did the following.

1. I deleted the exported file from \Documents\Mount&Blade With Fire and Sword\Characters\

2. I exported my character and then imported him back in again.

Now my troops are behaving properly. I don't know if this is just a coincidence or an actual fix but I'm happy now.

I found the cause in my game was my party didnt have any infantry and also I noticed my player unit "infantry which is by default unchangable" wouldnt be included in the in battle commands unless I had 1 ally infantry unit in the battle under my control, in normal warband your player unit is displayed always.

I fixed this by changing my companions to infantry instead of marksmen which I had them set as and my units lined up properly.
