Ho hum ....... Waiting

When I played M&B original I rather naively believed waiting helped your group heal and rest. So being someone who liked the idea of keeping it real - I would stop at dusk and put my little party to bed and subsequently get up again the next morning at dawn believing it had benefitted me in some way.

Warband - and I still do the same thing when I get the chance because now it's a habit. I see now that you can travel and fight all through the night presumably sleeping in the saddle and not suffering any fatigue or morale costs.

Is this right?

I do get a bit hung up on the whole idea of weariness - it is a status reported by your companions when they have worked hard for a long time - but does waiting/sleeping cure this eventually?

Am i barking up the wrong tree - does waiting do anything beneficial or no?

I'm under the impression that waiting in a town makes your companions' hitpoints recover faster, but I have nothing more than anecdotal evidence.

I actually tried doing the 'camp and sleep every night' thing, but it's so very hard to follow, as you don't seem to get any bonus for doing so, nor is there a penalty for marching through the night. In fact since you're not winning any battles (less current events morale boost) while camping while at the same time also consuming food, it's actually detrimental for you to do so. :???:

When your companions' morale is reported as 'weary', I don't think that means they're tired literally, just that they're not too happy with how things are going. So going out to kick some more butt would actually make them less weary.

The only good thing waiting/resting does is creating a rest for your companions that dislike too much fighting (Firentis, Jeremus) and waiting in a garrison increases your party healing speed. Other than that it's just a waste of time and money. None needs sleep in Calradia it seems!

Well, the idea of a morale bonus for sleeping at night and a morale deduction for only walking arround sounds good. But the computerized lords should also do that.

Well this isn't really camping through the night, but you've probably noticed that no fighting occurs at night between computer parties.

I think that the devs have missed a trick there - perhaps a good nights sleep and a meal could give you morale bonus which would help when managing a large army and justify a huge food zone in inventory.

Waiting of course speeds up game time - I don't like fighting at night and speeding up time when visibility is poor only begs a misfortune. I have been pounced upon by a campaign army doing this!

I dont know about wars freezing at night - I am sure some of my best and worst battles have been fought at night. Pretty sure I have seen quite extensive battles fought between ai lords at night. I think one of my first seiges at Halmar saw the Swadian host arrive after dusk to relieve me.

You and your party can, of course, fight at night, but AI only battles seem to freeze at dark with no losses to either side until the following morning. I frequently spend nights in town, just seems right to me, and I will camp, but rarely, due to the vulnerability.

I also believe that adding in a need to camp to rest your troops would be interesting, as long as the AI lords, Bandits, Etc. also did this, but I also think it should be an option, because some players might not be able to handle it.  Fatigue should also factor into battles.

For example, Soldier A has been marching for three days straight with minimum rest, to get to Castle B, where Soldier B awaits him, well rested and fed.

Its pretty obvious who would win that battle, and it would make, for some of us, the gameplay a lot more challenging, and certainly more intriguing.

Oh I didn't know ai lords can't fight at night!

Witchcraft!!!!

Now I shall have to find the sorcerer responsible and make him a powerful ally !!!!

I think there is a hint on the loading screen that tells you that.

The Brytenwalda mod has a morale penalty for marching thru the night. It slows the game down too much for my taste.

Companions also become 'weary' if they dislike your other companions.
