Ho! Ho! Ho! I think I get it, now.

I've been a supporter (financially anways) of Mount&Blade for a long time. I've tried to play it off and on, but I could never really get into it. I sat down yesterday and, after reading the unofficial manual, ended up having a hell of a time. I started life as a merchant. I trade goods between the various cities. I tried to avoid combat as much as possible due to inexperience.

Well, I don't know what happened, but something clicked and all of a sudden I'm like, "Oh! I got it now!" and I've been massacering everyone I can like a bloodthirsty lunatic. I've even gone up against 11:1 odds and been just fine, doding arrows, poppin' soldiers in the freakin' eye with a crossbow bolt, and nailing the bejeezus out of people with a golf-clubbing, two-handed battle axe from atop my n00b horse.

Then I found out about the arena. I gave it a go and found that the FFA DM is quite a blast. But nothing could have prepared for the real excitement that comes from being in a tournament. I've won two so far. The first one was done all on horseback with jousting lances. I made a few thousand gold from betting on myself and winning the whole thing. The last guy was really hard and the first thing he did was nail me for 70% of my health. After several failed passes, I finally landed a blow on his shield with 591% bonus damage and I heard his shield shatter. It was all over at that point. The second tournament was a thrill ride because *some* participants enjoyed fighting from horseback while others had to fight on foot. Talk about having to get creative. I started off on foot with a sword and no shield. I won that tournament, as well, but I really had to work for it. In fact, because of this particular tournament, I've gotten pretty good at going Conan on people and cutting the horse down out from under them while I'm on foot. The last round consisted of me on foot with a two-handed sword and the other guy on, of all things, a damn horse with a freakin' lance and shield. Talk about BS. I faked him out during his passes, stepped clear of his lance, and eventually brought his horse down, sending him flying to the ground where I finished him off but not before being beaten to within 10hp of my life.

I guess you just gotta stick with it and try to learn how the game world works. There's plenty of awesome things to do here.

Yeah, this game rocks. 8-)

Happened to me. I just clicked and become quite decent at the game. I can play on a higher difficulty, but prefer not to.

As for the Headshot and living, you must have hit his ear

It was almost the same as me, but I already did tend to like the game because I saw on a friend's house at first, so I knew somewhat how things were running. But really, the game is plain awesome, I suggest you try the mod Native Extended, here is the link for the sub-forums, after you know the base mod of course.

Nothing is more fun then having some horse-riding douchebag charge you, and you swing your epic 2H at their horse and watch with glee as the bugger flies from his perch and lands in a clump of angry allies.

Merchant on the rampage hehehe :D Dont touch my goods! :D

Never found that style of game interesting, just kill on sight everything that breathes air and walks :)

Crossbow tho..too slow, get a Champion pike with freaking long range and go stab around people :)

I was hooked the very moment I gave the demo a go. It really opens up when you go out and mingle... or cripple some one :)

Same... I tried the demo and already decided on buying it before the demo stopped. Then I purchased a key and was hacking/slashing for nearly two straight days.

the game actually brought me back to the times when I thought about not going to school to play computer games, but this time its called work, cant do it =(((

You know it's bad when you call out of work or call in sick for school to play a game. I can recall doing that only once... sad times. Then again, I did skip a TON of school to do a variety of shenanigans. I had something like... and kids don't try this at home... 37 unexcused absences in my first period class. Funny thing... out of all my classes in one year, that one was the only one I got credit for. I failed out of every other class that year (got a D in the absent class). lol

Needless to say I had to pull my head out for the rest of High School just to graduate on time. I set the record there for most obtained credits in a single year (in my senior year). Something like 250 out of a possible 80. :P

yeah the game is a great way to *vent your rage* disband your troops and take on the largest group of bandits you see :)

I decided to make life a little more interesting by signing up with the purple faction. Turns out they were at war with two other factions, the orange and the cyan. Somehow over the course of the morning, I ended up with about 60 people under my command. We burned a village down and took all their supplies and then set out to attack the armies of the enemy in their own country. Surprisingly, I ran into armies lead by Lords that each had between 40 and 60 units in them. We smashed each one with light casualties. As each battle ended, I ended up with fewer and fewer soldiers so when I realized I was down to 36 units, I had better call it quits and head home.

On my way home, I noticed an enemy army of 104 hanging around a castle on the boarder of my country. Between myself and them was a purple army of about 46 people. I stopped them and while the leader had heard of me, he refused to join up. When I clicked on "I have a plan. Would you follow me?", he said hells no!

Blah, so I said screw it and rushed the enemy in the mountains. When the battle began, I had everyone hang tight until we saw the enemy. A short wait later, we saw them coming down a mountain pass. I told the archers and infantry to stay put, while I had the calvalry follow me. We snuck around to the enemy's flank and waited. They took the bait and most of them went after the people on foot. I had my cavalry come down the mountain and ambush the bad guys in a small, tight valley in the mountains. While they were being encircled and pounded on, I had the infantry and archers come on down. When they arrived, I pulled the cavalry back and began zipping around picking off the men who were trying to fight my infantry.

Reenforcements arrived, many on horseback, but everyone was too close together for them to get in running passes on my infantry. So, I trotted around, popping people in the back of the head with my crossbow. We won, but out of 36 units, I lost 24.

I think that's enought adventuring for now. :D

I joined the purple people officially. Unfortunately, they're at war with two other factions and they're losing. I've been battling so much, I've gotten to the point to where I can take on 60+ soldiers with a handful of cavalry. I got jumped by 42 bandits (the kind with javalins, bows, lances, and leather armor) and I ended up having to solo them all. I've taken to using a large shield and a spear.

Anyway, I got awarded my own village... which was quickly burned down to the ground due to being on the boarder between my country and the enemy's. What an awesome gift.
