Revilo 说:They don't pronounce them dead, they just aren't a person, no more than a skin cell is and you shed them all the time.Lueii 说:So people would have financial problems? How much do they spend defending themselves. Why not save themselves the crap and have people like me who find embryonic stem cell research disturbing to donate adult stem cells for free. We'd be more then happy to.
Besides, why not play it safe and wait and see if it developes before judging them dead on sight.
The first part makes no sense, we've already addressed why you can't only use bone marrow stem cells.
Ambalon 说:1 - Your god [supposedly] sacrificed himself for people who wouldn't give a damn about who he was.Lueii 说:Above. I disapprove of abortion and thus stem cell reasearch for personal reasons.
I do not like the idea that instead of my mother choosing to allow me to live and be adopted by a wonderful family, I could have been killed and used as a science experiment to maybe cure people who don't give a damn about who I could have been.
That is why I hate both the concepts of abortion and stem cell research

Except for the part that, you know, you wouldn't exist to miss these things.
Also, you're pretty ******** self-centered for a guy who was so keen on judging my worth as a christian. ****.
Erm, no it wouldn't. Generally speaking, if you wanted to treat an individual via stem cells you'd ideally use the ones already present in their own body, for much the same reason a kidney transplant would be so much smoother if we were all equipped with spare kidneys. In fact you're pretty limited to what you could practically achieve using fetal stem cells; anyone with a high school knowledge of biology should be able to tell you why you'd generally not want to be using fetal cells to rebuild the immune system.
And as pointed out:
"The man received bone marrow from a donor who had natural resistance to HIV infection; this was due to a genetic profile which led to the CCR5 co-receptor being absent from his cells."
Must be one amazing fetus to have developed enough to not only have bone marrow, but to sign up as a donor too. Funny how much less of an idiot you look when you get your scientific knowledge from actual scientists rather than theologians.
What, you consider your bollocks to be some kind of genocide chamber?Lueii 说:And worse, I think of the thousands of children who never became children. Chills me.
Research can't be good or bad by definition, it's how the research is applied. And as people keep trying to point out to you, stem cells harvested from foetal sources are taken from the dead ones. It's a bit hard to get them from live ones on account of them actually being used to form said foetus.Of which I concede I like the idea of using adult stem cells. But what this will encourage is public opinion on stem cells period. Peole will twist this as proof that all stem cell research is good.

It's like objecting to removing the kidneys from a dead man to perform a transplant on a live one. Generally, most people wouldn't have an objection to it. Particularly not the donor themselves.
Feragorn 说:Except people don't abort embryos for the stem cells. Stem cells are taken as byproducts.
You've got it backwards.

I finally fulfilled my dream of becoming a genocidal dictator!Archonsod 说:
1. Are you implying that we can't take down trees or slaughter animals for food because they didn't have a choice on it?Lueii 说:1. He did. He had a choice however. An aborted baby wouldn't. 2. Then what makes it a human? And are you equating a human with a tree? And raw eggs are just eggs afterall.
Feragorn 说:Tell it how you want, stem cells of all types can be benefiting people and saving lives.
The point is, cannabalism is acknowledged as a toll of survival in extreme circumstances.

You don't find it disturbing and somewhat sick? Especially when the cannabalism isn't neccessary.

Apparently it's better to lose a life that we're certain exists than to sacrifice something that wasn't alive to begin with.Feragorn 说:Cannibalism is acceptable when used to save a life. Most of the time, however, the people being cannibalized are dead.
If we then, use stem cells from an embryo which was never alive, then what's the problem. We're saving lives.
