Well first off, read these:

and then discuss.

Personally, I see this as a fantastic breakthrough in not just HIV/AIDS research, but in the debate over using Stem Cells for medical research and treatments. If he stays 'cured' then there's a very strong arguement advocating their use, which can only benefit humanity as a whole and open up new channels of research and treatment.

Stem Cell =/= child. I don't want this to turn into a religious debate thread either.

It would have been a child.  Never had the chance to be one though.

Edit: Everyone knows my opinion.  Unless responded to I will hold my peace.

Potential children are only a possibility. The act of sex is also a potential child. If you don't distinguish between the logical levels of what can be and what actually is, every sperm is a potential child.

Now they're gonna use up all our foetuses! God damn it! We needed them for cloning, not curing gay people!

Irony.  Saving one mans life at the cost of a childs.

So you would rather have people who have HIV/AIDS to die than use cells that have no other use than for scientific purposes because this is what the church of your dubious God tells you to do?

Last time I checked, the Bible mentioned nothing about stem cells, and if a cure for such a terrible disease can be reached, than I am sure God would want it.

Religion breeds such inconsiderate people these days.

Every sparm is sacred! Every sperm is great!

Shouldn't you wait for that potential to come to fruit or not come to fruit, rather then hack down the sapling?

As I said, this has nothing to do with my faith.

Above.  I disapprove of abortion and thus stem cell reasearch for personal reasons.
I do not like the idea that instead of my mother choosing to allow me to live and be adopted by a wonderful family, I could have been killed and used as a science experiment to maybe cure people who don't give a damn about who I could have been.

That is why I hate both the concepts of abortion and stem cell research

No, no it wouldn't. The embryonic stem cells used in research tend to come from excess caused by IVF treatment that would never have become a child anyway. It is not a child, it's a bundle of 50-150 cells. It's like saying every time you ejaculate, you're denying millions of 'children' their chance to live, and the same could also be said about a womans period. You're not denying anyone anything, and it's a skewed view that prevents people looking at the greater picture.

In addition, adult stem cells are also used that come from bone marrow (as is the case in this article if you cared to read it), and as well as that, given the choice which would you rather choose? To alleviate or cure the suffering of untold amounts of people in the future, or to spare embryos destined for destruction or long periods of cold storage until well past the date of any use for anything?

Your logic fails. It is impossible to wait for potential to come to fruit or not come to fruit, because if it does not, it remains potential and you continue waiting for something that - realistically - could never happen just on the off chance that it does. That is, quite frankly, stupid.

****ING ****ING **** ****

This is about goddamn HIV, not ****ing abortion. WE ****ING KNOW YOU DON'T LIKE ABORTION LUEII NOW STOP MAKING THIS THREAD ABOUT IT.

Back on topic, this seems very interesting. Perhaps a few clinical studies can clear up some more cases?

There will be considerably more peace of mind though for everyone if this turns out to be a viable and effective way to combat HIV/AIDS. Same goes for the straight community as well. Heck, any community really, I don't see a downside to this if it turns out positively.

Then why not just use bone marrow?

Is eight monthes really that long to wait?

That's not irony.

Edit: Also, Lueii, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
